David is absolutely right. I think many of these people who have bad opinions of South Beach have not been able to embrace all of its beauty and magic for some unknown reason(s). That is a shame. I have always felt like the one of the best education experiences is learning about other cultures and where else besides South Beach can you meet wonderful people from Australia, Columbia, France, Germany, Haiti and all other parts of the United States just by sitting at your hotel's pool. Its amazing and so refreshing! As for the Euro Trash?? Can someone please explain to me what this is? Such an ignorant term that can only be used by someone with no appreciation and/or respect for other cultures. I don't think that guy would like being called a piece of American trash if he were in Nice.

Just to add to your comments, I don't know what they are talking about "eurotrash". In my experience, there is no one group that would be overwhelming. It truly is a mixture of everyone.

I have some crazy, some interesting, some sensual, and some heartwarming stories....just the way the beach is.

As for "Eurotrash", one of my fondest memories was meeting 2 girls from Switzerland at the Delano one night, and ending up dancing with them until 5:00am.

Even though other guys were "hitting" on them all that night, because I initially offered to show them around, they stayed with me the whole time just out of respect for my being nice to them. It was fun, and even to this day way send e-mails back and forth on holidays!

It is a fun place where no matter if your rich or poor, you can all party together and have fun. Just recently I went to a restaurant for a late night dinner (just an ordinary place) and when I looked over at the table beside me, there was Shakira having dinner with her boyfriend. That is what Sobe is all about!

Eurotrash: entirely self-preoccupied, make-up masked males or females who primp in front of three mirrors (four mirrors counting magnifying make-up mirror) prior to exiting high rise condominium in a manor Narcissus himself would find nauseating; usually display form-fitting designer fashions (Versace, etc.) and accessories as well as any display case manequin; flashy cars, smoke cigarettes, always speak a language other than English in public; machismo an attribute in latin cultures.

After reading all these posts, I am glad I am going to South Beach. I will certainly enjoy some of the "attitude" and watching it as it passes by... My hub and are still partiers (love to dance all night) even tho we are in our 40's...Glad I got the heads up in dress tho..and glad i packed the clothes I did..We are staying at the Waldorf Towers...I guess i should have looked more closely before I booked, because I now realized it it next door to Mangos! Ah well that was on my list of clubs to go to anyway...We are leaving on the 10th(tomorrow) so I am glad i found these postings before i went...wish us luck and fun!!

I've been to Sobe 5 times and loved every time. I agree it can be tacky at times, but so is everywhere else. I believe the term Eurotrash is used by those who don't understand the other culture and maybe jealous. What is worse that Eurotrash are those pale folkd coming from up north where the sun hasn't shined and they're walking around with their Florida T shirts and hiking up their socks to their knees.

From someone who used to live there and can't wait to get back - HAVE A GREAT TIME! Catch a drink at Smith & Wollensky and maybe another at the outside bar in the Delano. The greatest people-watching beach during the day.

Live in Boca and visit So Beach often.
Enjoy Lincoln Road, very pet friendly and people are great. Great way to spend an afternoon, shopping, enjoying the various mix of people.

Great restaurants, hotels, and beaches.
Its unique unto itself, yet still home to many people, young and old.

Everyone has different likes one should decide for themselves.

see definition's definition for eurotrash, being from europe does not make you eurotrash, just as being white does not make you white trash. the pale people referred to from up north must be from up north florida because there is noone up north that I have seen that dresses that way. What little class and sophistication Sobe has is imported from NY to begin with, so get over yourself miami.

SoBe is a hoot if you accept it for what it is: A little seedy, a lot decadent, and a lot self-consciously stylish. However, one day is just not enough. A long weekend would be best, to sample the clubs, the beach, the whole Art Deco ambience, and the people-watching.

There aren't really that many tattoo parlors-- obviously the people who say that don't walk beyond the doorway of Club Deuce (the dive-iest of the dive bars on the East Coast), with the tattoo parlor next door.

Ultra-cool? If you're used to big cities (NY, LA, Chicago, London), SoBe is a bit passé now, but still fun. If you're from a small town, it may be Too Much (Sodom/Gomorrah-ish) or Too Much (Where the $#&% are my clothes-ish), but you'll remember it always.
