South Beach Dining

We will be in Miami Beach for my birthday, and I was looking for a nice restaurant for that evening, I have read some good things about Wish and A Fish Called Avalon and a few, though not as many, good things about Quinn's, which is at the Park Central Hotel, where we will be staying. Any comments on any of these, or suggestions for another restaurant?

Wish-- awesome, very expensive.

A Fish Called Avalon-- quite good, not nearly as expensive.

Don't know Quinn's.

those are two great restaurants. I would add Barton G to the list as well. Never heard of Quinn's though

Dined at Wish on Sat 3/5. Restaurant not crowded, definitely seemed to be on downswing. Although food was delicious, service sucked and they charged our party of 6 for 9 entrees (3 extras)and 4 extra cocktails, and were not the least bit gracious about their error. 30 minutes later, bill was finally corrected. Would not return.

Bummer about Wish...! I've always had great service there-- but then again, the last time I was there was August of last year. Things can slide really quickly in those Hot Scene restaurants.

I have no idea when my next Miami visit will be, but I'm hoping Wish will still be around....

A Fish Called Avalon was great the last time I was there about 2 years ago. I actually have reservations for the end of the month. Try to sit outside...great people watching.

We were at Wish this past February on a Thursday eve and had exceptional service. I would go back there in a heartbeat.

If your looking for a good spot go to Mangos on Ocean Drive. Food is great and the atmoshere is awesome. Its a little loud but thats salsa and thats what Odrive is all about. Its so good that its been in movies and also featured on Travel Channel. HINT: If you decide to go don't take any bags with you because you have to check them and they charge. HAVE FUN

Wish. I'm still dreaming about my trip there just this past December after Christmas. It's so SB, so Miami. Love it.

Mango's?! It's such a tacky tourist trap. Definitely set up for the rubes. I hated it, personally. But if you want the cruise-ship style entertainment, go for it.

And "Odrive"?! Please-- this isn't Orlando. Or FOX TV.

Odrive?

This is one I've never heard before. I'll have to run it by my sister the local and see what she says.

She already gags when she hears SoBe and SoFi. The snob, LOL!

I still giggle when someone calls SoFi the "next up-and-coming neighborhood in Miami Beach". It's been up-and-coming for-- what? Six, seven years now. When is it upright and arrived?!

Had dinner at Wish last month and thought it was very nice. Gorgeous outside terrace for seating, our service was very good. It is very expensive and a tad overpriced for the food but I would go again. I haven't been to the others so I can't comment.

Happy Birthday!

rj, I guess "South of Fifth" will have arrived when they are finished with all the construction sometime in the year 2012.

They are looking to move downtown.

Barton G is hip and expensive and nothing special -- you could be in any city. The crab claw appetizers were $18 for EACH claw, which I found out after the waiter recommended 3 per person!.
Had lunch at Nikki's, a very fun, almost hedonistic experience with lounging beds and wonderful food -- very South Beach.
