SOS-RV on last leg
We're on the road, 900 miles from home. Our 18 year old Tioga has been diagnosed with low compression in two cylinders. Its still moving. Any advice on probablity to reach home in 900 miles. Other options ideas? Rebuilt engine is $4000, to check rings engine must be pulled with 20 hours labor. Don't know what to do. All help appreciated.

Are there other problem starting with the Tioga? If so I'd look at a new one, 18 years is a lot, but if there is nothing else wrong with it, I'd go for the repair. We had ours for 9 years and it was in excellent condition when we opted for a larger model. Next time look into the CSP plan from Camping World/Good Sam. It covers most repairs to coach for $50 deductable.

My decision would be based primarliy on my subtle knowledge of the operational characteristics of the vehicle. I would also conclude that repair costs will be similar at 600 miles from home, 300 miles from home, etc. So, reading nothing further in your SOS: I'd carefully head to a familiar place - home. Good luck
