Sonoma Mission Inn (CA) Renovation Update

We recently stopped in at the Sonoma Mission Inn to check out the renovations. Stage One will be complete in April, but the concierge informed me that there will also be a Stage Two that will not be complete until July.

I stopped into the gift shop and bought some wonderful Apricots N' Cream lotion, a scented candle and a BB hat. The spa is the same, but the Historic rooms and the Lobby will not be completed until July.

We plan on staying there next Spring on our annual trip to the area. Just a heads-up for anyone thinking of staying there in the near future!!! It's a wonderful place and with the new renovatons, will be even better after the summer! ***kim***

hi kimamom,

so the some of the renovations must now be complete. i want to spend a few days here! the spa looks fantastic and i can't believe the array of treatments: watsu, cocoon beds, the "bathing ritual"...it all sounds too blissful for words! that would be my main reason for going, but the rest of the property looks awfully darn nice if the website and brochure are any indication.......
thanks for the heads up!

It is heaven, just be careful, you many never want to leave once you're there!

Last year a lady said her best friend paid for her and three others to have a week at the spa. She had every treatment and dined at almost every great place in the area. They were from Canada and air fare was also paid. What a wonderful and generous friend she has!! Post a report after your stay.

We'll be back here next March when everything will be finished. I liked it the way it was, actually. ***kim***

I'll be very interested to see what types of upgrading takes place at SMI (now owned by Fairmont). The Inn has great history and beautiful public areas. But the rooms were among the most overpriced I've ever paid for 2-3 yrs ago. I was amazed. No different than a decent Comfort Inn, and we switched rooms twice, and were staying in some of their higher priced rooms (over $450/nt).
I'll give SMI another shot if favorable reports appear.

Did you stay in the Historic section or the Wine Country rooms? We stayed in the Wine Contry rooms and they were very nice with large bathrooms and nice roomy bathtubs.

They are renovating the Historic Rooms and also the Lobby. I'm sure it will be very nice. Everything should be finished by the end of July. ***kim***
