Could someone suggest a bed and breakfast or other lodging in the Sonoma area that is pet friendly? We will be traveling to the area in late May early June for a wedding and want to spend some time before the wedding in Sonoma. The price is not really an issue as we will probably only stay two or three nights.

The Sonoma Valley Inn accepts pets, it is a nice Best Western property located right on the Sonoma Plaza. We had nice room there that opened up to the jacuzzi and pool area, they used to be in the Entertainment Book. ***kim***

When you say Sonoma area, do you mean the town of Sonoma or Sonoma County? If its the county...Healdsburg has places that accept pets. Check HealdsburgRentals.com

The wedding is in Healdsburg on Saturday, June 2 ,2007. We fly into Oakland on Friday, May 25,2007 at about 12:30 PM. We have about a week to do anything we want and ,are thinking about heading up to Mendocino. Of course,we need pet friendly acommodations. We need to be in Healdsburg by Friday,May 31, Sat.,June 1st, and Sunday ,June 2nd.(3 -4 days). Of course, if we found the right place we could stay in Healdsburg longer. We fly back out of Oakland on Monday, June 4,at about 12:30PM.So..we have flexibility. PLB(wife of RLB)

GRIN...razzledazzle. It is driving me crazy that "SONOMA" is used as a destination when they mean, like Headsburg, Santa Rosa, Windsor, Guerneville, whatever. Do they think that "Sonoma" is a few square miles, instead of a County which includes valleys and coast? AARGH. It is very hard to answer a question about "Sonoma" unless you ask whether they mean the TOWN or the COUNTY. Napa doesn't have such a problem because once you get into the TOWN of Napa you just drive up the valley on highway 29 and that's all there is, for wine.

Yes, on Hwy 29 there is Yountville, Calistoga, St. Helena....but they are all on the same road.

AND, you are right about the Sonoma Valley Inn, not being on the Plaza. I had to stay there several times during my late mother's last illness,when I needed to be near the hospital and her doctor. (I grew up in Sonoma) and they treated me like crap...questioning my reservation, not allowing me to extend my stay an extra day one time, charging me a cancellation fee, when I needed to come back home for a family emergency, another time, since my original reservation had been for three days instead of two.

So, I do not agree with kimamom that it is a "nice Best Western property"...and it is certainly not located "right on the Sonoma Plaza."

I know, jt about the Sonoma thing, I wonder if it's not the fault of the way the "Wine Country" is marketed or
simply lack of map reading.

I truly, truly believe(d) that everyone
looks at a map as one of the first things one does when planning a trip.
If nothing else than to have a sense of where they will be. I, mean how do they know how to even get out of the airport ?

The reason we refer to this region as "Sonoma" is because of the wine region . We are aware there is a specific town in the region named Sonoma. If you read Wine Spectator, their writers mention, Sonoma,Napa,Monterey etc.
As it comes to map reading,I believe we are proficient, but we do have a GPS in our car. Thanks for your assistance, PLB

I understand, but if you say you want lodgings "in Sonoma" we don't know if you mean the Sonoma Valley, the Healdsburg area on Hwy 101, the towns on the Russian River-Guerneville, Monte Rio, etc.--or the Alexander Valley. This is all wine country, much more spread out than Napa.

You could very well stay in Yountville, St. Helena, or Calistoga for a wedding in either of those or in Napa. Not too convenient in "Sonoma".

"Sonoma" is a city -- whereas Sonoma County is a very large place. So if you don't want to stay IN Sonoma, you needed to be more specific in your post.
