Friends are planning a trip to Sonoma in July. We're familiar with the El Dorado and the Sonoma Hotel on the Square. I wanted to give some other suggestions in case our spots are booked up (my experience is that summer and fall weekends go quickly). Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Marie - if you like B&Bs, Ramekins is a greart place. Above the cooking school of the same name, but you don't need to take a class to stay there.
The Trojan Horse Inn is good IF you can get a room that doesn't face the highway. Otherwise the road noise is just too much for an enjoyable stay.

We stayed just off the Square at a Four Sisters Inn, "The Inn at Sonoma". Enjoyed its proximity to the square, as well as it's wonderful breakfasts, bikes to use, hot tub on the roof spacious rooms,and wine and cheese in the afternoons!

There's a great Italian restaurant just off the square: Della Santina's

Thanks for the recommendations! I've passed them along, and am keeping them for myself for future trips. We were last in Sonoma in September and found a lot of places to be booked up (fall weddings, I think) so I appreciate knowing about more places to stay and dine.

We just stayed two nights at the Sonoma Mission Inn for our fourth time. We enjoyed meals at the Big 3 Diner, General's Daughter, Carneros and Cyrus in Healdsburg. ***kim***

If you are looking for a very special, authentic wine country experience, try this private villa -Cecilia's Vineyard Villa in Healdsburg -- it is fabulous!
