Some Salt Lake City advice, please!
Hi all,
I'm arriving Saturday for a 5 day business trip to SLC and, because of some cancellations of meetings, etc., will actually have some free time to explore the area (I've never been...)
My plans include exploring the city, trying to go see the Tabernacle Choir on Sunday, and taking a drive out to Park City. I don't ski, but like to snowshoe and the outdoors.
Questions for you... Is it worth going to see the Salt Flats this time of year, or are they just flooded? How about Antelope Island - OK to visit in winter? I'm toying with the idea of heading to Moab or Bryce for a day, but not sure I'm up for that much driving.
Any other suggestions? Thanks very much in advance!!

Dr Carrie,
There will be nothing to see on Antelope Island or the Salt Flats. Just miles and miles of snow.
Bryce (4 hour drive one way) and Moab (4.5 hour drive one way) are definitely not day trips. Driving would be difficult to hazardous with the tons of snow we have been having. Weather pattern may let up a bit starting this weekend.
Visiting Park City is a very good idea, Main St., galleries, shopping, Olympic Park (highly recommend) will be a full day. Spas too!
Enjoy

SLC has a facinating history...you can spend the entire day at Temple Square, if you care about history..Go up immigration Canyon, as far as the snow allows, or Parleys, for some great views. Go to Trolley Squrare for some fun shopping, or the State Capitol...
Skip the salt flats, and Antilope Isl. Nothing to see, long drive.

If you are up for a drive and want to see some of the country and some history visit the Golden Spike NHS.

The state capitol building has just been refurbished and is supposed to be gorgeous. Golden Spike is a long drive and there isn't much there--even for my history/railroad buff husband. Emmigration Canyon is not closed--the road is always plowed. Breakfast at Ruth's Diner there would be fun. Park City is fun to kick around. You could also snowshoe the road in Millcreek Canyon--very safe, no avalanche danger but a good, uphill workout. Remember the altitude difference and drink plenty of water--it is so dry here. I agree, no to Moab etc--too far, roads too dicey. There is a nice Fine Arts Museum at the University of Utah. There is also an awesome dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.
