Sofitel NY or Millenium UN Plaza?

I can get either for 180/night.
These are the 2 choices.
I have read the tripadvisor reviews and just wondered if anyone out there has an opinion.
Anyone?
Thanks, in advance!

Stayed at the UN May '04 and had a great stay.

We had a big room and didn't see some of the usual complaints about the place, ie small rooms, old carpet.

Jerry the Bartender was a GREAT source of restaurants, bars and "NY shortcuts." Ditto Frank the Bell Captain.

Great view of Manahattan from our 30+ floor (34th?) room.

Was about a 10-15 min walk over to Times Sq but we're walkers so it didn't matter. About 3-4 blocks from Gr Central Station and pub transit.

Got it thru P'line for about $150 a night. We'd stay there again.

Thanks for the info!

Since I live 3 minutes away from the hotel, I can attest to the fact that the Millenium UN Plaza can be a good 25+ minute walk to Times Square - i.e. walk along 7 long cross-town blocks and which will seem much longer with the oppressive New York summer heat and humidity.

The good thing is that the cross-town bus is only 2 blocks away on 42nd Street.

Tx,
Memorable.
I wrote a letter to management about the fine service we received.

After a late afternoon "freshen-up", we'd start our evenings in the UN Bar and Jerry was so friendly from the start we almost didn't believe his recs because we all know how obnoxious NYers are, yah???

Hi billy_b.

Maybe it seemed faster because we were having fun? You know how time flies....

both are great, really. sofitel just upgraded their beds and linens. and i have a res at the u.n plaza for august. it is a hike times square however, depending on where you will be spending your time. short cab, bus, or subway/shuttle ride should do you fine. both ar great choices.

Well, the Millenium just offered me a 99.00 rate which may be too good to pass up!
Thanks for all the feedback!
