Snorkel Florida Springs?
Have heard Florida has pretty "Springs" you can snorkel in --- don't have time to drive all the way to the Keys. This would be 3rd week of June. What's the snorkeling like in these "Springs"? Names of the Springs / Locations? Is it worth a 14 hour drive ? (we have a week, can do other things, also - NO DISNEY!!!) Thanks!

Linda, it's so nice to see someone looking for the real Florida.
Go here: http://www.floridastateparks.org/Activities.cfm and click on the snorkeling icon for a list of parks. I'd try Deleon Springs, Wekiva, or Rainbow Springs. Kayaking and canoeing in state or local parks is also great. Where are you staying? We can make better recommendations based on that.
If SunshineSue sees this, she can tell you how warm Wakulla Springs would be in June. I've never been there, but I've heard good things about it.

There are also some Springs in the Ocala National Forest as well where you can snorkel. Be aware that in any spring or body of water you snorkel in Florida there are dangers, anywhere you find water you will find the Alligator. The springs are a part of the Real Florida and in no way is it Disney.

Last June a large 'gator got a swimmer/snorkeler in the Juniper Creek/Springs area of the Ocala NF. The area in the Ocala is a much more of a wild area than some of the other springs. One of the safer ones would be Blue Springs State Park just to the north of Orlando near Orange City off US17/92.

I've never heard of an alligator attack at Ichetucknee Springs about 40 miles NW of Gainesville, FL. It has a two hour tube run that can also be snorkeled. Keep in mind the water in all these springs is a constant 72 degrees.
