Skywest Flight to Jackson Hole
I plan on flying Delta to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, connecting at Salt Lake City on Delta's connecting carrier, Skywest. I am prone to motion sickness and have doubts about the small turboprop planes used by Skywest. Has anyone flown into Jackson Hole on Skywest from Salt Lake? Would appreciate your comments on the stability of the flight.

Did this about seven years ago. When you fly into Jackson, you're coming over mountains and into a valley, so the winds are kind of nutty, making it a bumpy ride. There was a woman on our flight out who mentioned getting very sick on the flight in. It sounds like it varies but is more often bumpy than not. I didn't have any problems, but I was less prone to motion sickness back then.
I'd make sure you get a window seat so you can watch the horizon and load up on Dramamine. From what I remember, the bumpy part is just when you come into the valley and it's over pretty quickly. Good luck!

I fly in and out of Jackson quite frequently on Skywest. Although I am pretty nonchalant about turbulence and small planes, I find the ride to be somewhat harrowing. You may have a few problems given your afflictions.
However, you may have a good alternative. Have you already booked your plane reservations? Delta will begin offering jet service from both SLC and ATL to Jackson this summer. It might be worth it to find out whether you can jump on one of those flights. Good luck!

I have flown Skywest several times and I have always flown CRJ's. (Canadair Regional Jets). These planes have all leather seats and are quiet and fairly roomy. You should have no issues with motion sickness if you feel fine on a DC-9, MD-80, 737 etc. Check and see what type of aircraft they are using on that flight.

Dear White-Knuckles,
The Rockies are subject to afternoon/evening thunderstorms in August and early September so regardless of the type of plane, you may have some turbulance. Morning flights are best during late summer for this reason.
I identify with your problem, since I hate strong turbulance too! But, I've been on some doozies - & we still made it!
Jackson is worth it. You'll have a great time!
