Although I live in Europe, where there are so many different high end skin care products, my everyday moisturizer is Purpose from Johnson & Johnson. It does a good job and my skin seems to like it.
However, I was just in Vienna where it was very cold and dry and ended up slathering on Darphin's Creme Energique and it worked really well...if you want something heavier than a light moisturizer like Purpose, I recommend it. I have also heard the Beauty Without Cruelty's eye gel (with tea tree oil, I think) makes a good all purpose moisturizer. Sisley makes this special moisturizing gel mask with flower essences in it that would work well on or after a flight. It's transparent and you just let it sink in, you don't have to rinse it off. Very nice and soothing.
However, if I were really to splash out, I would go for the products from Les Fermes de Marie (http://www.fermesdemarie-beauty.com/uk/geste_beaute.php)

Misting your skin with those Evian (or other brand sprayers) can actually be drying in the long run. Better to lug along a 1.5 litre of Evian and drink it slowly throughout the flight (and avoid alcohol and caffeine).

Are you planning to treat yourself to a facial after your trip? That works best of all!

Reading the reply from crazymina about some women having bad reactions to certain ingredients raises another important point. I would be very hesitant to try out a new face cream (no matter how pricey) for the first time on a long trip away. You never know if you'll have a bad reaction, and who wants to deal with that while trapped on a plane, or risk having it ruin a vacation? Maybe you can plan to try out a sample size on a small area a few weeks before your trip.

I also agree with all the advice about drinking lots of water, but keep in mind that can this can lead to other problems--like constantly waiting in line for the bathroom!

Annabel--I love that Dream Cream! Got hooked on it after I bought some in London and now cannot go without it. Also the Sympathy for the Skin. I like the no scent or lightly scented items. Some can be too strong for me. When we were in Canada the other year, my DD and I stocked up on all sorts of goodies and my poor DH was sneezing all the way home, lol!

My name is Laura and I am a TOTAL beauty supply junkie.
No intervention please... I enjoy my addiction!
I LOVE LUSH! I stocked up on my last trip to London, even with the crazy exchange rate it was cheaper than the LA, SFO, DCA, BOS and NYC stores (which I have been to)
I am afraid people will not find it inexpensive, though!
Actually, L'Occitane makes my favorite moisturizer... the 8% Shea butter cream. I am very sensitive/allergic and HATE creams that sting eyes and cause watering. I can slather this stuff all over my face without fear!
Evian spray DOES seem to dry out my skin... that's why I changed to the Better Botanicals product. It has moisturizers in it and it makes my face feel good on the flight.
I love the Kiehls Imperial Mask (I think) a SUPER strength, heavy duty hydrator that I take with me for those evenings where have time to sit around the room with a beauty mask on. My skin just goes... AHHHHH

I have dry, sensitive skin. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. I use a lot of Cetaphil products. They are available at Wal-Mart or at the doctor's office.

TxTravelPro (aka Laura) I LOVE the L'Occitane hand creme. It is like lard but a tiny amount will keep your hands hydrated all day (and though not obsessive, I wash A LOT). My BF actually got this and other L'Occitane products in a travel kit. Wish I could remember the airline and send him back on it!
Great thread girls! I've got lots of new ideas!

You can get Airborne in all our local Walgreens now, quite easily. I have taken it for years and now note it is displayed on the Walgreens' outdoor cornor- out lot signs in many locations in the Midwest.

This was interesting. I had an aunt who passed last year and lived in Arizona for her last 5 years. She was 90 and was a beauty consultant for Marshall Field's most of her adult life- downtown Chicago State Street. She would go to OakBrook (friend) at Field's and get all the new products and samples. One she loved and that I use often at this time is Esta Lauder's moisture wash cream. She started me on it. It comes in a large jar for about $35 to $40. This has a very pleasant aroma and is very calming, as well. It must have some lavender in it. I have the much cheaper favorites that work in a pinch, also. But there are many products I can not use as I have very fair skin that is irritated by many "easy" use products that others love.

I got my daughter started on several products from my aunt when she hit 30- and convinced her to wear a hat in the yard and at the lake (she has red head skin as well) and WOW, what a difference.

If you want to look good after 60, you better stay out of the sun unless you put on the sunscreen with a trowel. My friends who didn't have paid a heavy price, for the most part. I just returned from the Caribbean and someone at work said, "Where's your tan?" I told them I used 2 whole tubes of sunscreen, and I did- at least 30 strength.

Great advice JJ5.
I buy my tan in a tube.

While we're on the beauty topic, anyone have any favorites for self-tanner?
The Loreal Sublime is my favorite and this year they have the towelettes. I'm still not sure about using those, but have a friend who loved towelettes of another brand.

Wow, you are all a well rounded group of skincare advisors. The reason I put the "gals" in the post heading was to keep the critics, (not necessarily just men either), out.
My flight is three hours, but as you know, the time from check-in to landing and hotel arrival stretches it out quite a bit longer.
I'm going to drink lots of water and try the Prescriptives cream, and probably get a facial during the week of the trip. We arrive at 5 am, so I'm not too concerned with makeup, just a little concealer and lipstick to revive myself and not scare the family!
I too discovered Lush after a friend gifted me with their wonderful bath bombs, it's like a spa experience having those dissolve into your bath. Some have flowers and oils, some just smell divine and color the water, very soothing.
I will admit to being a magazine junkie as well. Self, Fitness and More are a few of my favorites. Oh, Vanity Fair is unequal for in depth interviews and reading on the plane.
I will tell you "skincare sisters" that my next goal/wish is to attend a spa weekend retreat. My b-day is April, and that sounds like a great present to myself. I've been looking at the Red Mountain Spa website. Has anyone in this group been there yet?
Thanks again for keeping this post alive and for not criticizing a travel related query, whether we buy the same stuff or not!
p.s. eye cream advice anyone,lol?

I am a beauty mag junkie as well Allure is my favorite...and anything that has MAKEOVER printed on the cover.

I did read in the new issue of Allure that Neutrogena makes a new spray on self tanner that you can spray at all angles, looks natural and the most important thing does not rub off. It will not leave bronze marks on your clothes and sheets. So I immediately ran out and bought 3 cans...have not tried it yet though. I will try it in a few weeks before my vacation. I use self taner in the summer and for special occasions get one airbrushed at the spa (that is great!) I have not had a real tan in years and years. The best suncare products are Clarins. They make a bronzer(makeup) for the face in a compact cream to powder 15 spf that is natural looking and FAB! I think I go thru 5-6 tubes of Clarins for a week's vacation! Since we are on the beauty travel topic, thought I'd add my 2 cents worth on suncare!

Unfortunately, my skin is EXTREMELY dry. I've tried literally dozens and dozens of creams and I finally found what works. La Mer in the winter when my skin is at its worst and (believe it or not) Ponds Extra Rich moisturizer in the summer. Before I get on a flight, I shower, pat my face dry and then slather on La Mer. It really works wonderfully. Also, drink two or three litres of water on the plane -- keeps you hydrated and you'll feel better when you reach your final destination.

Annabel~I forgot about Allure. I was a charter subscriber! I finally gave up Cosmo and Glamour since I'm an old married crone and not on the market, lol. I miss Helen Gurley Brown. Cosmo was my mom's bible, and my sister and I probably knew way too much at a young age, but oh well. I turned out okay..
I'm buying the Clarins. I love their line.
I've never bought sleep mask, but may try one out this time as well. Here's one more question.. short term tooth whitening products?
Do any of you bring your own small blankets or shawls in a carry-on?

I don't believe the product matters as much as that you use something. Your normal daily or nightly moisture lotion or cream is OK. Evian made mist cans of spray water that had some pink on the label.

For cheaper brands, I like anything by Aveeno. Thier skin-brightening moisturizer is not too heavy, and has sunscreen built in. I just started using the night cream and I like it also. I try to avoid the exfoliating, heavy-duty wrinkle removers. I think I'm still too young, I guess, (LOL), and I'll try them down the road.

1. What is airborn. 2. I use Crest White strips and they really work! Even my critical son noticed when he came home from college.

My mother once told me that a woman shows her age first on the backs of her hands and her neck.

I didn't believe her until I met Elizabeth Dole 8 years ago. It was her neck and the backs of her hands that gave away her age to her otherwise flawless face.

Since that day, I have religiously slathered up my neck, chest, hands and elbows with the thickest, richest skincreme I can find.

I am a very picky traveler. I usually wear a light blazer, non-jean pants (more comfy less binding for long trips) and a long sleeve tee shirt (C&C california makes great ones) and mule type shoes, to accommodate foot swell from airplane pressure. I do pack my own shawl, and my own reading material. I would tell you a story about what I have seen people use the sky mall mags for but I do not want to gross you out. I also wipe down the tray and tv controls, (also because I have seen what people do - completely gross) and bring sanitizing wipes with me to the bathroom-(you can only imagine what goes on in there!). We always fly first (except for JetBlue) because I like my space, espically on long flights. I cannot fly coach anymore, I love the reclining sleeper seats with adjustable foot rest. When I get to my destination, I feel rested and refreshed not cramped and grimy. And to be quite honest, I love the service, too. I do not wear a sleeping mask, but I will wear my sunglasses. I may sound a little spoiled, but I have racked up a lot of travel miles and have learned what works for me. I am not a clean nut, but I have gotten so very sick from the plane that I have learned to clean my area, and keep my hands clean. I always but these travel sanitizing wipes in CVS, they kill germs and clean hands and surfaces and take up no room in my purse. I have not been sick from the plane in years.

Well I have 1 pretty funny/gross story from my last flight to Vagas. We on non stop Delta from JFK to vegas (long flight) We had our "lucky" seats in first and this older couple sits in front of us. The man is asking questions about red wine and starts drinking. In first they serve you as soon as you sit before the palne takes off. He must of had 3 glasses of red wine before take off. Once in the air he switches to scotch and lopts of it! He is very very drunk, cant stand up and is falling in the aisle and trying to kiss the flight attendant on the way to the bathroom. His wife is getting mad at him and instead of doing something about it she would put her pocketbook o her shoulder and walk up nad down the aisle - like she's leaving or something. The gross thing is that before he passed out he made 1 last trip to the bathroom and came out covered in puke and piss. I m sure he did not wash his hands either... So very very disgusting...so that is one of the reasons why I clean stuff....and why you should too!

Sorry to get off the beauty topic a bit, but we can't be georgeous when we're sick now can we!

I always bring a black shawl/wrap with me. It's great for a blanket or pillow on the plane and a ton of uses on the trip - cold restaurants, "picnic" blanket, dress up an outfit, etc.
I second the Crest White Strips. They are great.

Oh yeah! I always have antibacterials wipes, too. In the car (great for after pumping gas!), in my purse, in my carry on, etc. My mom friends say I am more prepared than they are. I'm also the one who always has safety pins, Q-tips, etc.
Others bring the gel/liquid but wipes have more uses and I just feel "cleaner" being able to WIPE the grime away rather than trust that it is evaporating into thin air!
This might be from years of going out on Bourbon Street where anyone who has been here knows is not winning any Cleanest Street contest any time soon...
