skincare question for gals re nighttime trip.
 

I am wondering which moisturizer you use on a redeye flight. I want to remove all makeup and use a good eye cream and moisturizer.. have you found any good products this past year? Also, have you used the new hydrating mists for your face? A few years back, I used to bring the pink can, can't remember the name now.

I would recommend that you use a "plain" moisturizer, that is, not one with AHA's, glycolic, retinol or Vitamin C treatment in it. Something where the emphasis is on hydration. I believe Prescriptives actually has something called "in-flight" cream. I have seen people carrying around the Evian miniatures for misting on their faces - I think that's the pink can you've noted.

Perscriptives makes a flight cream that is pretty good. It's around $35.00. Are you talking about the Evian mister for your face? I have used that, it's ok. The best tip is to drink tons of bottled water.

I use Kiehl's facial moisturizer for my face and then Nivia heavy Creme (as opposed to lotion) for my eyes, forehead, and throat.

I like the Better Botanicals mist. You can get it at Whole Foods (or similar) and it smells like rosewater.
Love it!
Also, the day I travel I use Dr Hauschka Normalizing Day Oil.
It keeps me hydrated but not oily.

Thanks for the replies. It's good to find out what works for others, as opposed to reading all the magazine ads and wondering if it's all hype. I also like trying new products and like Presciptives and Kiehl's. Has anyone splurged for La Mer yet? I'd love to get some and see what happens. I guess I could cut back on wine for awhile.. well, maybe I'll consider that later,lol.

Not wasting $120 on moisturizer. That is ridiculous.

La Mer is very heavy cream...I would recommend it if you are extremely dry.

The best advice to keep moisturized durng flights is:

No caffeine (coffee or diet sodas are out), No alcohol, both will dehydrate your body. Drink lots of water, or herbal teas. actually cold camomille tea bags on your eyes are a perfect in between moisturizer for about fifteen minutes. Spritz your face with Evian Mister, which is the pink mister you were talking about. While your face is still moist from the mist use Flight cream by Perscriptives, which was formulated for flight attendants. Try in between to wash your face at least 1 time during your flight with a mild pre moistened face towelette. I think Olay makes them. Y0ou do not want to keep putting layers of cream on your face without cleansing at least once. The cream atracts not only attracts and traps moisture to your skin but dirt in the air as well. The only thing a hydrating mist is water, so you want to trap that water into your skin with the flight cream. The tea bags will hydrate and soothe your eyea and also de=puff.

Your inside is as important as your outside...I swear by Airborne, it really works and makes you feel good, I always take it with me and have a glass or 2 in flight. Aso try to steer clear of overly salty foods in flight...you will not be able to get your shoes on by the time you land.

Annabel~ thanks. I am a beauty junkie too, and have scaled back a bit since kids, but for traveling, I don't want my skin to pay the price. Geez, I excercise all year so I can feel good and look pretty good for a 40-something mom, so I try to keep up with tried and true skincare too.
Gotravel, I can't justify La Mer either. I'd rather have some wonderful perfume for that price!

I can't get Airborne without going to 4 or 5 stores, then by luck <i>might</i> find one tube! Usually it's sold out. I'm not using it for skin....I'm hoping it will give me some resistance to all the bugs floating around.

I have a girlfriend here who is a FA and swears by Kiehls. She began using it out of desperation when she began flying (for Southwest, and yes, older skin :) ). Haven't tried it myself, but she is a convert and I plan on trying that when my Estee Lauder moisturizer is gone.

I was given a sample of LaMer. My skin is quite dry and this stuff was so fabulous...<i>really</i> fabulous...that I thought I'd get some, hang the cost. Well, the cost was, as I recall, over $120 for a small jar and the New Englander in me rebelled. No can do.

I actually buy Creme De Le Mer for my Mom 2x a year (B-Day and Christmas)
She swears by it and I get to keep the 1/3 oz travel size that Saks almost always includes... which I use when I travel! (Go figure)
I love it, too. It's good stuff.
And if you break down the price by weight, it is not much more than other creams. I get a large container for 110.00 and it seems to be about 3x as much as some of the creams I have used in the past that cost 35.00.
Anyway... it's a special luxury that I can buy for my Mom and it makes her feel pampered. That's worth the 110.00 to me!

I was watching a report once on moisturizers...and if many of them were hype. They ended up concluding that drug store oil of olay or ponds (or even vaseline!) was as good as the ones that cost 100s of dollars. The key, they said was something that &quot;seals&quot; in moisture. The reporter actually joked that if women wanted to save money, they could just smear lard onto their face. :-O

I thought, uh, no thanks. I'll just keep using what works for me. And I don't think they took into consideration that some women just have bad reactions to certain ingredients, so one size just doesn't fit all.

What the reports was saying is that all those added ingredients are not absorbed by your skin - virtually nothing is - and the job of moisturizers is to seal in the moisutre your skin already has. That is why thick, nasty things would work well as moisturizers.

That said, I do not use goose grease or motor oil on my skin - I like Clinique products. And like many people, I get a psychological boost out of buying nice cosmetics, so I guess the ads are working.

I was glad to see this post. I have to admit at 50 yrs. old I have never been too concerned with moisturizing my face. I have used odds and ends and have found shopping for a product totally overwhelming. The other day I went in to Walgreens thinking I would just buy something there, read all the packages of Nivea and Olay and walked out with nothing. There are too many choices! I prefer to use products that are natural based - no unnecessay chemicals, dyes, etc. I also do not want to spend big money for a moisturizer.($65 too much). I looked up some of the product lines already mentioned here and it is more than I want to spend.

Sounds like there are a few beauty experts here so I would love for you to tell me what an all around moisturizer at a good price is. Thanks so much. And oh - I am kind of fussy about the smell of products.

My name is LHG and I am a skin care junkie. I have been using Obagi products for a month now, along with the Kinerase eye cream. Today, I will go in for a second microdermabrasion. I have never used Airborne. I'll have to try that, but I'm always sure to drink lots of water when flying (and only water!) BTW, I buy these products from a plastic surgeon.

I have a &quot;new&quot; addiction...Lush products! All products (for face, hands,hair, bath and body) are hand made in small batches and all smell wonderful, and all natural ingredients. I can't stop using their Dream Cream. The only problem is that it takes a few days longer to get the products, but they are inexpensive and FABULOUS. Since we are talking beauty products, just wanted to pass it along to all beauty junkies. You can get this stuff on amazon or their webiste.

I think fodors should have another topic board...travel beauty! Actually it is not a bad idea. The topics can be packing, beach accessories, sun care, etc for travel

This is so funny...I guess if everyone was a beauty jnunkie the world would be a much prettier and nicer place!

FYI..I don't know where you guys live, but I get Airborne at Fairway market in NY (in the vitamin section) they always have a ton of it and I buy 10 packs at a time - my DH takes it too, not all for me. BTW its a great hangover tonic ;)

Good advice everyone! I will have to try Flight cream by Prescriptives. I can't spend 120$ on a cream either!!! I like Keihls too.
