skiing - Telluride

As someone spoilt by skiing at Val D'Isere/Tignes, but not familiar with powder am I going to get bored at Telluride? My wife (not as experienced) likes the look of it. It looks a bit small to me. Any comments on this resort welcome

Is there a comparable resort? I don't want Aspen or Vail as they seem a bit snobby.

Telluride is a little smaller than Vail and Aspen, but it is not. Lots of challenging runs there. Hot Springs in Ouray are nice, too. Some trails are groomed and some are powder. I've never skied in Europe, but Colorado skiing and winter weather (sun, sun) are great. Personally, if you can afford the costly trail fees, Vail probably has the best, most varied, and greatest runs of any of the areas in Colorado. I think you could ski there for two days and not take the same run if you tried. if you're skiing, who sees the snobs. Go back to your condo after a hard day of skiing, sip some wine, soak in a hot tub, and get ready for the next day of skiing.

If you are looking for a larger resort, which similar to those French resorts then try Whistler/Blackcomb! Great value. You will not be bored because of the vast skiing terrain and your wife will have numerous diversions in their wonderful Base Village! The only drawback is the weather my be suspect! Usually more moist, less powder!

Similar variety will be found in Summit Country Colorado. You have those great linked resorts Keystone, Arapahoe, Breakenridge and Copper. And here is where the powder will be found!

Thanks for your replies. Good point about not seeing the snobs if you don't want to. I'll take a further look. What are the lines like at Vail/Aspen for 1st week in Jan?

FYI, check out the espace killy trailmap for val/tignes - its massive.. And just FF 1118 gets you a 7 day ticket, including a guest day at La Plagne!

Typically, the lines should not be a problem at most ski areas during the first week of January except for the week before New Years. But, I don't know what school schedules are in your area, but quite a few Denver area schools are off the first week of Jan. instead of the week before Xmas. Still, it really should not be much of a problem in the large areas like Vail and Aspen whose big crowds come in March. As I said Vail is huge and has the most varied terrain in one place. Aspen has a better vacation atmosphere, but you need to choose what mountain to ski on. It's been awhile since I've been there, but Buttermilk tends to be beginner to intermedicate, Snowmass, has long groomed runs for the intermediate skier, and Aspen Mountain, has the advanced intermediate and expert runs. Either area is about an hour's drive to Glenwood Hot Springs which I love.
