SKIING Lake Tahoe for Beginners

I wanted to plan a trip to Tahoe this winter, but am unfamiliar with the area and am a beginer with skiing. Are there some resorts that are more beginner-friendly than others?

Try Sierra-at-Tahoe. It is about 12 miles out of South Lake Tahoe and is great for beginners. It even has a beginner run called Sugar and Spice that goes from the top of the mountain all the way down to the bunny slope. That's where I learned to ski!

Depends where you are going. In the North Shore area, there is a small, family run resort called Diamond Peak that is great for beginners. I learned to ski at Heavenly, which is huge and has slopes for all levels. Both offer classes.

N. Star, N. Shore area, is also very good for beginners!

I will put in another vote for Diamond Peak, which is smaller and less intimidating than some of the bigger Taho places. Relaxed family atmosphere, great views of the lake, nice ski school.

We went to Lake Tahoe over Christmas break and stayed at the Hyatt. One day we skied at North Star and the rest of the time we skied at Diamond Peak. I am a real beginner (have only been on skis 3 times). Diamond Peak was definately the resort for us. The lessons were great.

Squaw Valley has a nice beginner area at the top and Alpine Meadows also has a nice beginner area. Definitely take lessons. I would suggest either a private lesson or semi-private. Have fun.
