skiing in december

Well, if that wasn't rude and uncouth, I don't know what is! Why denigrate someone for asking a simple question?
Unfortunately, there's no simple answer, because mid-December can be quite dicey anywhere, depending on what early winter weather is like at a particular location. I don't know where you live, but I would place my bet on a higher-altitude western location, probably in the Rockies (Alta, Snowbird, Steamboat Schweitzer, to name a few). I live in the Pacific Northwest, and so would choose Whistler, Mt. Hood Meadows, or Timberline for early winter skiing. I've gone with friends to the Tahoe areas in late December and had pretty skimpy conditions, but again, its a year-to-year thing. I used to live in New England, which should have at least some snow. Last year they had NOTHING in mid December.
Its a shame "Skier" doesn't share his VAST knowledge with all of us idiots, but in the meantime, you will have to accept my meager offerings.

It all depends on the weather in any given year. However, the best is usually in Colorado followed closely by Utah. California has been great and terrible during the past few Decembers. Before you make plans, just remember that the lack of snow can mess up anyplace.
