I'm not aware of any car rental agencies that will allow one-way travel between Southeast Alaska and Southcentral. There is a rather grueling bus service between Haines and Anchorage (something like 30 hours I think) which overnights somewhere around Tok I think. When you add fare, overnight, and food it probably costs about the same as flying, but with a lot more discomfort.
Otherwise, your choices are two: State ferry on the cross-Gulf service twice a month (summer) from Juneau to Seward, thence by train to Anchorage, or flying from Juneau to Anchorage. From Skagway you'd have to go "back" (i.e. south) to Juneau to catch the plane or the boat. There's also (seasonal I think) air service from Whitehorse (train from Skagway) to Fairbanks, from which you could fly, train, or drive to Anchorage. see www.flyairnorth.com

Since I'll be taking the Inside Passage to Skagway myself in June, I'll give you the results of my research. You could take an Alaska Direct bus from Skagway to Whitehorse, stay overnight, and then take an Alaska Direct bus from Whitehorse to Anchorage. Note: Those buses don't run every day. Or you could take the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad from Skagway to Whitehorse. (There is twice-a-day service and the last portion is by bus.) After staying overnight in Whitehorse, you could take the Alaska Direct bus to Anchorage. Do a Google search on Alaska Direct Bus Line and also on White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad for the details.

Here is another option I just remembered. You could buy an Alaska Pass that is good for travel on the Alaska Marine Highway, the Yukon & White Pass Railroad, Holland America coaches, and the Alaska Railroad. Visit www.alaskapass.com for the details.

We also are coming up on the AK Ferry to Skagway. Great Alaskan Holidays is meeting us with two RVs - there will be four couples. The one-way cost is an extra $500 each RV. They have been a great help in planning and are good to work with. We then plan to go back to Haines with our RVs and start up the Haines Hwy. toward Denali. We don't lose any of our valuable time and don't have the hassel of the pick-up. Hope you have a great time!!!

We also are going up the inside passage to Skagway. Alaska Travel Adventures, 1-800-323-5757, is meeting us with an RV. There is a $500. one way fee, but if you figure your time and transportation to Anchorage it may be worth it to you. They have been great to work with. We are then going the take the ferry back over to Haines and start out the Haines Hwy. for our great adventure.
Have a wonderful time!!!
