Skagway Railway

Hi,
We are taking a cruise the last week of August and will be in Skagway around the 26th. I am reading about the railway and the different routes you can go. What do you all think of the railway trip there. There are several offered by Chilkoot company that lasts seven or 8 hours where you connect with a bus and go into Carcross and Emerald Lake. Is it worth the time to do that or is the short trip enough and then spend time touring Skagway and maybe taking a short hike? I'm thinking it would be nice to have more physical activity although my partner is limited in his walking ability. Please advise.
thank you

Don't know about the other trips you mentioned, but I thoroughly enjoyed the train trip out of Skagway much more than I anticipated. I thought it would be OK and signed up because it is such a popular activity. The scenery was gorgeous and the narrator on board was very informative. You could go out on the platform behind the car and take pictures. Loved the trip and highly recommend it! Guess now I know why it's so popular - it's worth it and I'ld do it again! Enjoy!

We also enjoyed the White Pass & Yukon RR very much. The rest of the day we spent seeing the film & exhibits at the National Park Service Visitor Center, taking their walking tour, and seeing the City Hall & Corrington Museums.

wondered if anyone had advice re suitability for someone with fear of heights! My husband said he would just close his eyes when the train went over the trestles, but I wondered if the rest of it was so steep that he'd be miserable!

My husband is afraid of heights, to the point where he won't go out on the balcony of a ninth floor apartment. He didn't have any trouble on the WP&Y RR.
