Six Flags and Lake George, NY

I'm planning to go to 3D2N short trip to Six Flags, Great waterscape at Queensbury, NY and also have a quick trip to Lake George, NY. I booked my 2 N stay with Six Flags Great Scape Lodge which alo has an indoor water park. Need to know where we should spend time at Lake George. So far, for a day at the lake - hiking at the Prospect mountain, boat trip at the lake and some time at the million dollars beach...on my plan... don't know if we will have enough time after six flags fun..

There are better hikes than Prospect mtn. Easy to get to and a nice 1/2 day hike is Buck Mountain. http://www.everytrail.com/guide/buck...in-lake-george.

The top of the mountain is blanket with wild blueberries - nothing better than sitting down in the middle of a patch and enjoying a natural snack. You also have great views from the top of the mountain.

Prospect is fun to drive up and catch the views. If you want a more adventuresome hike I can point you to other mtns that are a little further away.

Tongue mountain on the west side of the lake is supposed to also be a great hike, but I've not done that one.

Million dollar beach is a very large beach - it can be crowded on weekends but weekdays not so much. The beach access is free but you do have to pay for parking.

If you have v. small kids the and only want to play in the water a short time, then Shepard park right in the village is a good alternative to $M beach.

Personally, I am not a fan of the big boat tours of the lake, but if you have never been out on the lake then by all means take one. Once you get away from LG village you'll be surrounded by the beauty of mostly undeveloped Lake George. Most of the northern 1/2 of the lake is set aside as forever wild - thanks to early conservation minded landowners who donated property to the state long ago. There is currently a groupon offer for one of the boat tours - I saw it as recently as yesterday so look on their website.

You can also kayak in the Bolton Landing area - you can put in at Rogers park if you are bringing your own, or rent one for a few hours and paddle in the shallow areas and coves.

A great full day kayak trip would be to paddle out to the Narrows Islands for the day - the water is much calmer early in the morning, and will be quite a bit rougher once the big boats kick up wakes - it's not a calm paddle.

For a lunch with a view, my favorites are the Sagamore and the Algonquin - both in or near Bolton Landing. The former is a large water front resort, the latter a nice restaurant on the water in a small cove. I prefer the food at Algonquin.

For dinner, there is an excellent restaurant at the Top of the World golf course on the south east part of the lake - high up on a hill. Thirty min away to the South is Saratoga, with many more excellent restaurants. Track season starts 7/24, so town will be busy 6d/week for the rest of the summer. Tuesday is quiet day at the track.

There is also a bike trail that runs from Queensbury to LG - it doesn't run directly past Great Escape, but it's easy to get to without having to drive. It's no more than 5-6mi by bike each way. Not flat, but not a hard ride on a bike with gears.

Then, there is always small scale outlet shopping in QB - not more than ~1mi from your hotel.

Thank you so much J62 for your response. I'm sorry I forgot to metion that I've two kids of 6 and 16, so big hiking plan will not be a good choice. I will take a drive on the Prospect mtn. To have fun with my kids, which trail for hiking will be a good choice and also,as this is our first trip, which boat trip will be better choice for us of a family of four.

Buck mtn is doable for a 6yr old if they are active and don't dawdle, but most of the hike is uphill and through the woods, so no aha views until you get nearer the top. Not something I'd recommend for a kid who might complain. There is plenty of scampering to do at the top of Prospect as well, even if it is just the last 1/2 mile from the large parking lot up to the summit.

The Buck Mtn trail does criss cross a creek bed several times in the 1st mile, so you do have the option of just taking a nice hike in the woods without going up the mountain. I've done the flat part with smaller kids before and it makes for a nice walk in the woods, splash in a creek, hike.

You could also just walk ~1/2 to 1 mile on the hike/bike trail that leads from LG down to Queensbury. It's an old RR bed that heads streaight out from LG between the Minne-ha-ha and $M beach. It's paved, but still a nice walk.

I can't reco a specific boat tour - there is the Minne-ha-ha, Mohican & Laq du St Sacremant - run by one co. http://www.lakegeorgesteamboat.com/

Two of those are the larger boats with paddle wheels. And the other co has boats like the Adirondac http://lakegeorgeshoreline.com/cruis...ips/adirondac/

I would pick the length tour that suits you best - something that goes up to the Narrows and back would give you the best experience, and you don't need to go all the way to Ticonderoga.

But I don't know the duration - to me, 1.5 to 2hrs max on a boat would be plenty, so look at those links. This is the groupon link.

The kids might also like a tour of Ft William Henry - site of a Revolutionary War battle.
