Silver Fall State Park
While we were visiting the Willamette Vineyards, I saw a sign that said this state park is right around this area. Does anyone know how far back it is, is it worth a stop and would an afternoon be enough time to expolre this place?
We are starting to plan for our next trip to the area in the Spring!! Thanks!! ***kim***

Spring is the perfect time to visit this park. The waterfalls are fuller. You can walk as much or as little as you want. Some falls are a couple of miles apart, and some are close to each other. I remember we walked under one, and looked out at the spray of water coming down. It`s very green around there. We stayed in Newport Beach and just did it as a day trip, and it worked out fine. I don`t think you need to spend more time than an afternoon there. I don`t remember the mileage getting there, sorry.

It is very worth a stop. It is a great park for as much or as little time as you want to spend. A full day to hike the 7 mile (?) round trip trail to all the falls - 7(?). Or there are several shorter trails that go to a few waterfalls then back. The shortest directly from the park takes you behind a waterfall - very exciting and back up right away. It is a steep hike and you will get misty wet behind the waterfall. There is also a campground if you want to camp.
I estimate it is about 30-40 minute drive from the Vineyards. I don't go that way so I may be way off but it is a very pretty drive - some of the most beautiful of Oregon in my opinion.
It could also be combined with a half day at the Oregon Garden in Silverton, also very worth a stop. I am looking forward to visiting for years and watching it grow and mature. We went in early spring when the bulbs were up and not much else and it was still pretty. They also have a Frank Lloyd Wright house on the premises which you can tour.
Silverton is also a quaint town with an old downtown area with antique stores and cafes and there are some beautiful old homes there too.
I think it would make for a very long drive/day to come from the coast for the day I just suggested but very easy from almost anyplace in the Valley.

Yes, very much worth a stop! We used to take out of town visitors there when I was a child and have many memories of it. Now our family is moving back to OR in the next month or so and I am itching to take the kids and dh there

I will definitely plan on about four hours here. It's a fourteen hour drive to Astoria from where we live. We usually stop in Ashland or Grants Pass, then drive on up the next day. This would be a great place to have a picnic lunch and stretch our legs!! Happy New Year!! ***kim***
