Sigh....How can people do something so stupid?

Boy Scout leaders topple one of the goblins at Goblin Valley State Park. And then post a video of it. And then make all sorts of rationizations for their behavior.

I agree. Beyond stupid. Moronic. (There is already a thread about this.)

Boy Scout leaders can be idiots, but they can't be gay.

What the hell is the matter with these people? They are supposed to be role models for young people?

Why were they letting those teens jump around on those rock formation to begin with? Have they no respect at all for nature.

I'm a city person - and will probably never go to see this area - but even I know the first rule of enjoying the outdoors is you MUST leave things as you found them.

One thing can never be underestimated and that is the stupidity of humans.

Yes, it turns out that it was also posted in the lounge. And I was glad to see there that one of these jerks had previously filed a personal injury lawsuit claiming he had incurred a debilitating injury. Which evidently didn't prevent him from climbing and toppling a goblin.

Even with all the National Parks in Utah, Goblin Valley is still one of the most amazing places I've visited. You really feel like your on a different planet there.

This reminds me of a quote from John Muir about cutting down Redwoods and Giant Sequoia trees.

“God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanches, and a thousand tempests and floods. But he cannot save them from fools.”

Great quote Spiro!!

There is an outrage in Utah too! The Boy Scouts in Utah are largely made of packs that are sponsored by the LDS (Mormon) Church. All boys go through scouts. Leaders are "called", .e.g they don't volunteer for that specific assignment. So you get people who just should not be scout leaders who have to step up and fill the positions. Boy Scouts in Utah have a sad history of getting injured/killed on wilderness trips due to the inexperience of leaders. They also do lots of great things too. But all of the packs I have ever encountered have been very irresponsible on trails and they are the scourge of many a land manager (be it state, national forest, national park etc) The state Council really needs to step up its expectations and training IMO.
