Short Whimsical trip report - NYC with daughter

My DD and I flew to NYC to check out two colleges that offer Architecture programs. We thought we would have a little fun too!
Day 1 -
After checking into the Hilton (using points) on the Uber tacky but oh so much fun if you have never seen it - Times Square, we went exploring! Well, we went to Madison AVe, 5th AVe,etc.. to check out some stores. I was lured in by a tricky but clever sales person at Saks and next thing I know I have just bought "Cellosmet" from Switzerland products - remember my thread last week about Botox?? Well, I thought this might do the trick! It cost more than my best freinds first car!!! I might return it! I got suckered in I tell you!
We ate a little place called Burger Heaven for lunch - very good!
We went into the American Girl Doll Place as she once was obcessed with these dolls!
It was drizzly so we stopped and got some chocolate at Maison du Chocolate - great Macarons too!!! Perfect tecture!!
We explored Rockefeller Center and walked back to the Hotel - It was fun to watch her see the lights for the first time!! We saw the infamous Naked Cowboy on Broadway too!

Day 2 - Visited 2 colleges - one in Brooklyn - We took the subway!! Both are great choices -
We spent time in Chelsea on 8th. Looked into little shops. Cafes were open outside! We went to La Belle Vie. Very nice - great atmosphiere with all the vintage posters which I just love!
We went to Macy's then purchased the double decker hopon/off bus. It was great to get off our feet! We took the downtown tour. By the time we were finished it was 8.
She wanted to go to Serendipity so we took a taxi to this little nook of a restaurant. There was an hour wait so we walked down the street to "Dylans Candy Bar". We spent the whole time there tasting and buying in this 3 story candy stoere that is owned by Ralph Lauren's daughter. She loved it! I would have never walked in by myself. I did buy a lot for Easter though.
I heard the food at Serendipity was mediocre at best. I was surprized how good my chicken soup was!! Her burger was really good too!! Unfortunately we did not try any of the Famous Desserts!! Too full!! It is very small on the first floor !
Day 3 - We slept in! I worked out in the gym then we left for the Uptown bus tour!! It was interesting!! We got off at the Central Park stop. We enjoyed a Carousel ride and a walk around the lake. The spring bulbs were up and gorgeous!!
We then went back to Hotel - we were now at the Marriott on Lexington(using points). I would never stay here again. Terrible service, paper thin walls, street noise was unbearable from the 19th floor. did I mention terrible service??
We quickly got ready for dinner and Mama Mia!!
We ate at Vice Versa. Nice atmosphere. The food was fair. I was very disappointed as I heard on this forum how good it is..... I ordered the Red Snapper. It was tasteless, over -cooked and served over bland mashed potoatoes. The spinach salad was good. DD had a pan roasted chicken that was fatty and greasy and also bland. There were a few spindly brocolli pieces with it. It was all a blech meal! Desserts were not excititng. Taramisu was boring served in a martini glass?? It was a bit watery and such a disappointment. Service - OK.
Mama Mia was great fun! It was fun to see ! It is a "feel good" show. I love Abba music though!!
Day 4 -
Ate breakfast at New York Luncheonette on 5oth - great omelett!
Spent half of the day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We thoroughly enjoyed it!! We also went to Museum of Modern Art. We walked back to the hotel via Central park. We had a coffee at the Park Plaza. WE ate lunch at Pizza Joint that was fantastic - 2 huge slices and 2 drinks all under $10.
It was a great mother/daughter time spent together albeit a quick one!

Pratt is in Brooklyn. She really liked it. The dorms were a little sub-par though. It flet like a jail with no light. My other daighter went to university in Dallas - whole different feel, but these daughters are very different - which is a great thing!!
I think she would be very happy at any of the schools she visited in NYC!

City 'campuses' are quite a different thing. But the areas around CU and Columbia are great for young people.

Wow, did you get up on the wrong side of the bed, Hazel?

Sure, they were a bit much, but Anne had some good things to say. I liked her report. And it wasn't just a post--it was a trip report. I glanced through your queue, but I couldn't find any you'd written in the last five years. Give it a try-they're harder than they look.

Thanks for the fun report! Sounds like you and your daughter had a great time, you must have a lot of stamina to see the Met and MOMA in one day!

With any luck your daughter will be in New York for four years and you can do this more often!!!!

I think a proper use of punctuation is to communicate enthusiasm, why not?

I was very enthusiastic hence the exclamation marks. I will try to keep them to a minimun from now on Hazel. Thanks for your most thoughtful suggetion... yawn.

Salive, Nikki and Centralparkgirl - Thanks for your kind remarks.
