My girlfriend is pretty burned out and needs to get away for a short bit. She wanted to go to Portugal, but she doesn't fly well. I think she liked the idea because it was a change of pace, being a different culture and all.

We're in Atlanta, and I'm trying to think of somewhere to take her that isn't a long plane ride (maybe 4 hours max) and that would be a nice change of pace. Looking for a short, 3-5 day stay. Maybe something with a european influence. We're not looking for extravagance or a heavy night life scene. Just something that is nice.

She's expressed interest in living in St. Augustine, FL, as well as taking a cruise, or perhaps going to the Carribean.

I don't get around much either, so I'm asking for ideas. I know that this probably isn't the right forum to post in, but I gave it a shot.

Might I suggest Bermuda? It is close, cultural, influenced by the British. It is my favorite island.

And since it sounds like you want to go soon - I have been there in March, and although it was quite rainy, I still had a wonderful time. (I have also been there in May).

It is perfect for a long weekend! What a lucky girlfriend you have!

delta has direct flights from atlanta to key west.

Then go to St. Augustine Florida. I think it is a lovely town. Just gorgeous. A perfect short flight for 3-5 days.

Go to one of the out island of the Bahamas ie Harbour Island, Abaco etc.

delta has a direct flight from Atlanta to the Cayman Islands that is short. Cayman is relaxing and fun. You're scoring lots of points doing this for her! Good luck!

I would agree that the Bahamas would fit the bill. You can fly directly out of Atlanta to Nassau and stay at Compas Point, which is small and beautiful and right on the beach with a good restaurant. It is away from the tourist area of downtown Nassau. You could hop in a "bus" to downtown for some shopping, and a few restaurants there as well.

There is a ferry you can take over to Harbour Island from there and stay at Runaway Hill or Romora Bay, both are smaller resorts right on the water, nice pool and restaurants on site.

St Augustine is one of my alltime favorite spots... old city.. where no cars are allowed in.. beach very close... WONDERFUL B&B's and for such a small city.. they have to have some of the best restaurants anywhere

The weather in Florida has been down right chilly. 60's in the Keys and colder the further north you go. I would go to either the Caymans or the Bahamas.

Too bad it's winter - I'd suggest flying to Quebec City or Montreal. Definitely a European flair without the heavy prices, but it's too cold right now. (You might want to surprise her and book a trip there for the Spring - very romantic).
Right now, I'd try Universal Studios, Orlando. Stay on property (they even have a hotel that tries to imitate Italy) and try for a rate that includes passes to the park, airfare and hotel. We think it is a lot more fun than Disney. Plus, she can either relax in style at the hotel or play like crazy at the park!

Go warm - and Florida has been chilly lately. I agree with the smaller Bahama islands. I just got back from the Virgin Islands Sunday. A trip to St. John would be fun but costly this time of year. Lots of day trips to other smaller islands from there.
