Short, fun trips from New York

My boyfriend and I are trying to plan a small (3-7 day) trip for a relaxing fun getaway. We are leaving from New York and don't want to travel too far. Neither of us have traveled much and we are having trouble thinking of places to go. Help!

My vote is for Cape May! I absolutly love it. Also, I would think about the northern coast of Maine, or maybe Quebec and the surrounding areas.

You have many options. WhaT I suggest is :
1. Block Island. Fun for a couple. Active, romantic, ferry ride is fun. Ferry can be picked up in CT, NY or RI.
The are some reasonable B&B's. May be crowded though.
2. Northern Adirondacks. In or around the Upper Saranac/Lake Placid area. Lots of activity: canoing, kayaking,
pretty good fishing. Just returned from up there this weekend - - bugs were pretty bad,but the flies should die off soon. Beautiful country. We were camping and roughing it, but we managed to nip off to a up-scale hotel for appetizers and cocktails. lake Placid has some sort of late-night action going on.

Newport Rhode Island is fun. Lots to see and do. Active night life (when the sailors are in town).
Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket are alittle more active than Block Island. Both have good places to stay and Good Restaurants.

Another vote for Newport. What a great town. Don't miss the mansions and Hammersmith Farm. Have fun!
