Sheraton Towers, New York

I stayed there last May. I thought the rooms were nicer than the Hilton Towers. I also thought the sports bar was a nice place to have a night cap after a long day of sight seeing. I thought there were a lot less "business" people around than the Hilton Towers. The Hilton Towers had a lounge area with nice snacks but a martini was 16.00! The sports bar at the Sheraton was much less. The bathrooms were larger (had double sinks!) at the Sheraton. Also the location cannot be beat. If you stay there, the official welcome center (visitnyc.com) is located right across the street and a little deli like place that sells meals (at a counter and than you sit down)really cheap! A breakfast egg sandwich with bacon was 2.50(?)or 3.00. Very inexpensive!

I like the Hilton New York better, personally. But, I don't like staying on 7th Ave b/c it seems more crowded, and the Hilton's on 6th, which is one block closer to 5th Ave and Madison Ave shops. A matter of personal preference. I've also had alot more luck with the concierge's help at the Hilton.

O.k the location is excellent but for the same rate you can get a better value.
The rooms are on the small side and look tired and used.
The'so called', club floor service has been recently downgraded providing only a poor continental breakfast and free canapes with ... your paid(!!!) evening coktails.
Check the 'news'in sheraton's website you will notice hat this hotel is now under renovation
Maybe this is not the right time to check in.

WE stayed at the Sheraton Towers for 2 nights at the end of July--$82 through Hotwire. Obviously a great rate for a nice hotel in a very convenient location. If there is renovations going on they have begun since then or they were very quiet and discreet.
Personally I thought the rooms were large by NY standards based on the places that I have stayed at in the past.
Overall it is fine. Enjoy!

Renovation works have just started and some floorshave been completely closed.
Check the travelers reviews for the Sheraton towers on www.travelocity.com, for more advices.
In any case DO NOT book the Sheraton Manhattan wich is just accross the street.

Concerning the Sheraton Manhattan,i must say that my stay beg. of sept was one of my worst in NY.
1/this hotel has not seen any renovation for years, not even any kind of refreshing maintenance.
everything from rooms/bathroom/carpets/furniture look overused,stained.
2/ During my stay, some of the elevators were under maintenance (seems like this maintenance takes months to be completed): irrational even dangerous operation exasperated us during peak hours.
3/ They better have to replace the front desk by 'computers',...as these folks-when it is required- show no interest in helping their guest.
However the concierge desk and porters are pleasant and efficient.
4/There is a pool and a club lounge that cannot justify the rates.
The hotel's website shows pics that obviously do not concern this hotel.
There are several other hotels in this area fully renovated with upgraded amenities like the Parker Meridien/Sofitel/Renaissance etc...
