I made a reservation through Priceline this morning for the Sheraton Towers for Memorial Day weekend...I've read a lot of mixed reviews about it, but it seems like a lot of them were before their renovations.

Has anyone been there since they renovated? Any thoughts?

You are going to NYC to have a wonderful weekend not to stay in a hotel.

The hotel will be fine. Call the hotel directly, ask to speak to a reservations manager, get their name, and tell them your worries.

Being nice is the best bet for getting help from a hotel employee.

Agreed. You got it for a great price. If you were paying $300/night, you may have reason to worry. At a Priceline price, it will be fine.

The location is unbeatable.

And you get use of the wonderful BIG indoor pool at the Sheraton Manhattan across the street! If you have an hour to relax, try the pool, it is great.
I do not want to add to your anxiety at all , but I am also goign on Memorial day weekend, and you should be aware that there is a street festival on Sunday

The hotel is fine....It was never "that awful"! It's in s great location for seeing the sights.

oops, I hit the button too soon-- there is a stret festival on Sunday called "Times Square Fair" that will run on 7th Ave. from 47th to 59th st. See www.nycvisit.com under calendar of events. "Over 350 authentic ethnic foods, arts, crafts, antiques, jewelry and general merchandise exhibitors will create a shopping carnival on 7th Ave." I imagine the street will be clsoed to car traffic? I got nervous when I saw this (our hotel is not right on 7th Ave like Sheraton but is half block off of it) but just decided we will enjoy the the street fair as part of the experience.

Howard, the street festival is outside the Sheraton's front door. I thought traxomatic might just want to be prepared for that ahead of time- could require a bit of planning and re car traffic, foot traffic, and taxis for their plans that day

OK, emd, now your comment makes sense. I don't think the fair will cause too many problems, since traffic will be very light that day and it'll be easy to just walk a block to 6th or 8th

thanks for replying : ) I don't think the street festival will really affect our trip -- we're coming up by train. I was just a little worried since I've stayed at the Sheraton Manhattan before and wouldn't consider it "4 star" or whatever. Your replies were helpful, and the street festival sounds like fun.

If you worry about hotels that Priceline that will put you in, and if you don't think their star-ratings are accurate, then maybe Priceline isn't really for you.

I stayed at the Sheraton Manhattan (just across the street from the Sheraton Towers) for 6 nights over the spring break holiday. Both hotels seems to have recently been renovated. It was OK. Nothing wonderful but nothing horrid. The rooms were clean. The food was good. The indoor pool *was* a big deal to my children. And yes, the location is absolutely wonderful. My only real complaint was about the front desk staff, who were barely adequate. An endless series of errors on their part caused a lot of frustration. And I had called the morning of our check-in date to re-confirm that all details were worked out, but there was nothing done upon our arrival. All staff behind the desk were essentially useless. I concur with another writer who suggested that you call the "day of" and speak to a real employee of *that* hotel. NYC is so fantatsic - ENJOY!!!!
