SF with kids

We spent 10 days in SF and Napa with our 3 1/2 year old. The city was a riot; Fisherman's Wharf was great fun, and we thought the aquarium was worth the stiff admission. We also spent the better part of a day in Chinatown going from playground to playground and enjoying the culture and city.
Out of town, our advice is AVOID NAPA AND SONOMA WITH CHILDREN. Never, never will we forget the Glares of Doom from restaurant hostesses or the ill-treatment at the hands of our B&B owner, who had said their establishment was "child friendly." Guess she meant children over 20. Not a good experience AT ALL.
(hey, is this the same Kelly who sent us all the helpful stuff on taking kids to the Big Island?! If so thanks so much for all the great info. We are counting the days.)

Sorry JB, but it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to realize that B&B's are not the kind of establishment to take a small child, regardless if they are child friendly or not. I don't think that Napa or Sonoma are really places for children either. These are adult places.

JB,
Thanks for the reply. You'll have to let me know where the playgrounds are in Chinatown...our kids would love that also.
As for Sonoma, we're actually staying near Santa Rosa at Vintner's Inn. It could be loosely described as a B&B, but not technically. The rooms are huge and very private, and when we stayed there before there were several children. Our primary reason for choosing it is not to tour vineyards, but because it is centrally located for outdoor activities. We'll probably spend a day near Reyes Nat'l Seashore, take in many of the Redwoods in the area, and maybe head up to Lake Sonoma. We might be making a mistake, but I think it will work out fine. It's a beautiful area, and unlike Napa, there is more than just the wineries!
Also, when do you leave for the BI? Be sure and post a trip report so I can live vicariously through you until we're able make a return trip! Happy to have helped, and let me know if you have any other questions. That's what these boards are for (or so I hope!)
