Message: SF has a long history of not really caring what tourists think of
their city. The people who manage to live there all have their noses in the air but manage to ignore the filth around them and still think it's so great. California has lots more to offer than Frisco and Hwood.

PS, great letter in today's LATimes in response to the article I mentioned earlier; an ex-resident of SF was disgusted upon his return for a visit by the hordes of agressive panhandlers seemingly on every streetcorner. He longed for a disciplinarian mayor for SF who would clean house ala Rudy Giuliani of NYC; fat chance that the people who do all the voting in the City (limosine liberals and armies of welfare recipients) would vote for anyone other than a career pol like downtown Willie Brown who tells everone what they want to hear and has made his fortune pigging out at the public trough!
