SF mini-get-together, or My Attempt of Being a Drama Queen
Last weekend’s highlight in San Francisco was the “homecoming” of the Beachbums – I think Mrs Bum was running, and Mr Bum cheering her on. So our own Mr Kal was very actively organizing a get-together. I was supposed to meet them all (I still have no idea how many were supposed to be there!) between 4-5 pm at Kuleto’s. It’s good I had Kal’s cell phone number as 10 minutes before leaving I realized there is more then 1 Kuleto in San Francisco. It turned out the other one is McKormick-Kuleto. What a relief!
So there I was, walking along Powell in broad daylight in the crowded street, passed Kuleto’s not seeing anybody just standing there, when a strong big long arm pulled me in one of those doors. It was too terrifying to fight. I won’t lie, my life hasn’t flashed before my eyes, and it only took a couple of seconds to realize somebody’s calling my name. No, it was not The Higher Calling. Just Kal who recognized me, peeking out of the restaurant’s window, and used his own delicate way to greet women
When I came to, there were only 2 of us. How thoughtful of him was to get rid of Mrs Kal, even if for several minutes
There we were, just 3 of us, sitting and chatting the evening away, The Bums never showed up! I wonder who else didn’t The Kals are a nice couple, and if anybody is in doubt to meet or not to meet – they instantly make you feel “at home”, easy to talk to, nice, friendly, humorous.
A special paragraph for The Dazzles: Kal did order a special bottle of red wine from your favorite winery, not that I tried to learn that name but you should know which one. We had dinner at Kuleto’s, all 3 of us found the food to be good! I mean ggoooooooddddd
And yes, he was wearing shorts. And a Hawaiian sport cap. I think it’s his uniform. I forgot my camera at home, but Kal had one, and we took lots of pictures. If Kal dares to post them (and I double-dare you my friend!) don’t worry about that one where I blindfold him. Mrs Kal emotionlessly took the picture while I was tiding the knot.
The next get-together will be in Yountville, lucky you who’ll meet there, at least I’ll see the pictures. And if anybody’s in San Francisco and wants to meet, please let me know [email protected]

And...btw...Another big Leukemia/Lymphoma Society toast to Mrs Beachbum.
While we missed meeting her, we understand she came thur the marathon with VERY flying colors!!!

Thanks Faina for posting this! Kal you dirty dog, gettin rid of Mrs. Kal like that! I like the mini gtg thing... best things come in small packages! I also enjoyed a mini gtg w/ the Kals in Chicago a few weeks ago... but I didn't write such a nice report like you, Faina.

She was finishing her beer up at UnSq and was in deep discussion with a very nice couple we were sharing a table with at the outdoor cafe...they came over from Alameda....and they were discussing a few things that you and she were discussing back in Chitown.
Deep stuff....so I went to a bar!
Plus I didn't want my girfriend to show up to a Kal-less restaurant!
