September 2010 trip
Planning on going last September especially so we can also see foliage turning. along trip.
Here is where we want to go, what would be suggestion on best loop around route.
Coming from Dallas/Ft Worth Texas: Durango/Silverton train & see million dollar Hwy drive- Canon City for Royal Gorge Train- Eisenhower Tunnel with drive of Glenwood Canyon. Had thought about Trail Ridge Road but not sure about time also there is an old cemetery outside Gunnision at Ohio City. Old family buried there, wanted grave photo but not sure about time. Trip 3-4 or 5 days at most.
Thanks,
Mary

For what you are suggesting it better be five days. Assuming you are driving. A loop could be Durango, Gunnision, Glenwood Canyon, Eisenhower/Johnston Tunnel, Georgetown (and the Georgetown railroad which is more authentic than Royal Gorge), Trail Ridge Road (if still open), Denver, Canon City/Royal Gorge and home.

out plans look like to drive to Pikes pike, then canon city for royal gorge train, then to Durango for Bus/jeep/train tour (via 285 & 160.
Were coming from Dallas/Ft worth Tx so we've decided 5 days out.
Any other suggestions

I share fmpden's concerns that Trail Ridge might be closed by then. If you are heading up to the Glenwood area from Durango, it might be fun to stop at some of the vineyards as you head north up to 70. Have you considered mostly staying in the SW corner? Perhaps consider a drive along the San Juan skyway loop with a detour to Gunnison and stays in Durango, Telluride or Ouray/Ridgeway?

Pike Peak access except via the cog railroad could be closed by that time and it is possible the cog railroad would not be running. Staying in the SW would give a better chance of some color reminding. By late September it could be will gone from the high country around Colorado Springs and Denver.
