Sept/Oct in Orlando from Ireland
I am thinking of taking my parents (in their 50's) and the rest of the family, minus the kids, to orlando in the middle of September. As my parents have always wanted to go here I was wondering what people would suggest we should see. They would not be interested in any of the water parks but my Father has insisted he see the Kennedy Space Center.
Any suggestions?
Go raibh maith agat. (thanks very much in Irish!!)

Check out www.Go2orlando.com --wdwig.com(Deb Wiils unofficial Guide)--Orlando Chamber of Commerce web site--Disney.com---uescape.com(universal Studios website)--wdinfo.com--travelnow.com--and there are 2 websites for hotel, plane ,car and packages at *travelocity.com --and--Expedia.com.Also most airlines have packages, too. Do you have such a thing as AAA where you are located? They have Condos and Orlando packages.I know it`s the American version. Also, do a check on forums for Disney or Orlando or Kissimmee or St. Cloud.there is some info there.Kennedy Space Center is nice but don`t go in a storm-they won`t let you see anything by the launch pads. They should have a web site.Hope this helps.Go to the "Beach' while there -suggest the Gulf beaches.Erin Go Bragh!

Hi Seamus
I'm also planning(hopefully)a holiday to Florida and we will be visiting Orlando for a few days. I just thought I'd mention if you are a member of the AA you can ask and they will send you a AAA card(for free), which means you can save abit of money getting into theme parks etc.

Yes, the Space Center. And, Universal Studios if you are into that kind of thing, DisneyWorld, of course, Epcot I lNow, question for you. I am taking my mother for her 70th birthday to Ireland, where her ancestors originated. We fly into Dublin, and plan on a day or two there just to catch our breath, and Cork, as that is her ancestral home, but do you have any specifics for us? As in, any specifics as to where to stay, off the beaten path places to see? We plan to rent a car; good idea or no? Our time is open, so is mid September a good time? What will the weather be like? (She gets cold very easily due to a bit of a heart thing.)
I thought of one other thing for your trip, a bit off beat, but there are real ranches in the area you are visiting. Would staying on a ranch be of interest? There would be information on this from the Kissame/St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce, I believe.

Thanks for the replies.
I've replied to you Rev.Deb. directly as the post was probably too long.

Seamus--
Aside from Disney and the Kennedy Space Center (definitely don't miss that), there really isn't anything else to do or see in Orlando. If you like amusement parks, definitely go. Otherwise, I'd pick another destination.
Whatever you decide, I'm glad to see you bucking the trend, to some extent of your countrymen in not traveling to Orlando in mid-July and August. Never could quite understand why everyone in Ireland and the U.K. leaves during the only time of year you have a chance of getting good weather to go visit places like Florida, Mexico, the Carribean, etc. when it's about 10,000 degrees there. They haven't quite caught on to the concept of leaving a cold place when it's cold and going to a pleasantly warm place when it's pleasantly warm.

If your father is interested in Kennedy Space Center, be sure to visit the Astronaut hall of fame. Both are less than an hour from Orlando. I agree that a visit to the gulf beaches are well worth it. You will get a true feel for the area on Anna Maria Island. Longboat Key is wonderful; much more upscale if that's what you're looking for. Both are 2 hours west of Orlando. If you plan to visit the Disney theme parks, you will probably find it most convenient to stay on the property. Disney offers quite a bit besides the parks as well.
Good luck. We visited your country last month. The scenery and the people were wonderful.

Check out Discovery Cove - they have a website. Thsi is owned by Anheuser-Busch, same folks who own Sea world & Busch gardens. It is new this year, just opened in July. It is by reservation only, they limit visitors to 1000 per day so no crowds. There are a limited number of dolphin swim reservations at about $179 per person, but there is admission advailable for only $89 per person that includes everything EXCEPT dolphin swim, plus with both admissions there is 7-day pass to Sea world either before or after you discovery cove experience. My family has reservations here for late august, I will post report when we get back.
