Seeking San Diego hotel advice

I'm looking for a hotel that is in the near vicinity of Holiday Inn on Harbor Drive and unfamiliar with the area. I'm part of a large group staying at the HI on Harbor Drive but there is no room left for me. I have tried the HI Downtown, the Wyndham, the Hampton Suites, and no luck. Can anyone give me other hotel names close by. The staff at HI wasn't any help in recommending another hotel except their own. Thank you.

Here's a trick. Go to mapquest (or any other mapping service like Google maps) and get a map of the hotel's address. Then you can search for things (like other hotels or restaurants) near it. I've done it for you here

There is a web site just for tourist info. I am sorry I don't know it I only know that it exists. Google for it and I know it will come up. I am sure they could help you. If it is a large convention in town then the picking will be slim. I would try that site and the sooner the better. Best of luck. If you have a car then there will be more options available and driving is simple in S.D.

margarita:

Visitor information website is www.sandiego.org - lots of information. You can phone or e-mail.

These hotels are close:

Manchester Grand Hyatt, 1 Market Place
Embassy Suites 501 Pacific Hway
Best Western Bayside Inn, 555 W. Ash St.
Super 8 Bay View, 1835 Columbia St.
Hilton One park Blvd.

Another trick I use is to go to www.mapquest and get driving directions to determine how close a hotel is to a address I want to stay at.

Curious - when are you visiting? Best of luck.

The Sheraton mentioned is on Harbor Island and is also quite close.

When you go to the sandiego.org web site, you want hotels in the downtown area.

The W is the closest that I can remember. Are you going on a cruise? We stayed at the Hyatt nearby in Feb. and found it decent. It's nearby, too.

Here are some great sites and resources:

http://www.localwally.com/

Also, if you download Google Earth, you can see the location of the hotels.
