sedona to GC and back

On emd's advice starting a new thread...

is it feasible to stay till sunset at gc and then leave for sedona?

actually had one more question.. seeing conflicting things that the drive into gc from east is better than the drive out of gc.. and vice versa.. which is true?

hear the east rim has less traffic during the day so i guess that'd be the way to go?

there's so much to do and i think i'm out of breeath just thinking about the things to do.. we are planning on getting into gc after mass on sun morning so i guess we will be at gc around noon.. plan to do the bright angel trail (the 1.5 mile) and then wait for the sunset.. and drive back to sedona.. does it sound reasonable? are there other things that we can squeeze in? i wish i had more vacation..

We stayed in Sedona and drove to the GC and entered via the east entrance with no waiting. We stayed long enough for me to get sunset shots from the south rim and then hit the road home.

We drove to/from the GC via the Oak Canyon way instead of the interstate. I don't want to recomemend driving in the dark on that winding 2-lane road home as it wore us out! Take the interstate. However, the drive up was very scenic.

Our next trip, we are going to spend the night at the canyon instead of a day trip as we heard the sunrise is even better than sunset. Plus, we can relax a lot more and won't feel so rushed.

Have a great time,

IMHO, you get better views of the area as you exit at Desert View, but if you're going to wait until after sunset...then it's a mute point...cause it will be to dark for you to see the panoramic view as you exit.
