Sedona Enchantment in April

My husband and I will be travelling from New York. What can we expect as far as weather for the first week of April? Any feedback on the resort? Also, where should we fly in to, and then how best to get to Sedona? Thanks.

The resort is very nice but it's a drive from town. My hubby and I only had a drink there but the views were beautiful. But then again everywhere you go in Sedona you have drop dead gorgeous views. We flew into Phoenix and then drove to Sedona and then up to the Grand Canyon. You could see if you could fly into Flagstaff but I think the air lift can't be beat in Phoenix.

We went in February and it was sunny and cool by day and probably in the 40's at night.

The place we stayed Sedona Real Inn was nice but sort of like an upscale motel. But it was in town and usually that's what I prefer. An upscale in-town property I read a lot about is called L'Auberge de Sedona, or something to that extent.

Enjoy!

We had lunch at L'Auberge in October and it's a beautiful property. My sister-in-law who lives in Phoenix has stayed there and she loved it. We also visited Enchantment. It's fabulous but not close to the city as previously mentioned. My sister-in-law has stayed in one of the "casitas" and raved about the place.

We were in Sedona a couple years ago in April and it was chilly. It actually snowed on our last day there. We stayed at The Southwest Inn. Next time we go, it will be later in the year.

I went 2 years ago in mid-January and although we saw a little snow on the ground in Boynton Canyon (very deep) it was warm. We wore shorts and t-shirts on that hike and were never cold. We wore the same for all the days but needed warm clothes at night.

The dessert can be unpredictable so it may be a good idea to check the weather before you go. No matter what the weather is, it as a fantastic place! Have a good time.

The Enchantment is wonderful!! We spent part of our honeymoon there (November timeframe). I would probably fly into Phoenix and drive there (you definitely want to have a car). It's not a bad drive. I've been to Sedona twice now (LOVE IT) and have found it to be fairly casual. The Enchantment is extremely elegant, but I never felt it was too fancy. There was no down side to it - it's a wonderful place....

Snow in Sedona in April? I live in New York where it has been snowing since November! I was hoping to spend most of my visit in shorts. Input, anyone?

Dear Bluesky9ny,
My advice would be to spend a week in Scottsdale and a day in Sedona. I love the outdoors, love to mountain climb, etc, but that is what I would prefer. Like you, this Michigander is tired of the cold and would love to be guaranteed some warmth.

Happy Trails,
Paul

PS I was not overly impressed with The Enchantment Resort either, but I hear of many people who are.

We have been to Enchantment twice and LOVED it! The location is wonderful--in a canyon 7 miles from town. We usually prefer to be in town, but this setting was so spectacular(and the town is not so!)that we wouldn't stay anywhere else! There several hiking trails of varying difficulty that start right at the property so you don't need transportation to reach them. The views from the dining room are unbelievable and the food was good. The spa services are wonderful--no way to beat a massage following a hard climb up the red rock cliffs! Love the orange juice and synopsis of newspaper delivered to your room early each morning! And the quiet at night---heavenly!!! I don't think you will regret staying there! Would you post a trip report?

I live in Flagstaff and can tell you that April weather in northern AZ is variable at best! If you really want to spend the vacation in shorts, do consider the Scottsdale/Phoenix suggestion, as it will likely be cool at night. Sedona will be terrific by day, although we have been known to get snow in April (as noted earlier). Keep in mind that our winter/spring is unlike yours in the Northeast - the snow/rain comes in and leaves just as quickly, with blue skies and incredible star gazing yours to enjoy!

Thanks for the input! Is there anyplace in particular you'd recommend for overnight in Phoenix? Just basic, clean, etc. We'll just be staying the night we fly in, and head to Sedona the next day.

We must have been in Sedona the same April 2001 that the other poster was there and it did indeed snow, but I was told this was unusual. Then we drove 3 hours south to Tucson and pulled on our teeshirt and shorts and enjoyed some warm weather. Have a great time!

Try Priceline.com for an overnight motel/hotel. I bid last year and got the Sheratin San Marcos Resort in Chandler and it was wonderful... I was in pretty much the same boat as you, just needed a one night place, not too far from the airport (it was 30 minutes? -easy drive and nice area). It was so nice, that I felt guilty about only paying $30 to get it while others had paid $120.

Happy Trails,
Paul
