Thanks. If we are going for the 8pm show, what time should we be at Adobo Grill on a Friday for dinner before the show? I really wanted to go on Thursday but that is the only day in Aug they are sold out! Has anyone seen Pratfall of Civilization? How is that as compared to Between Borack?(that is available for Thursday). Thanks.

Just got back from our weekend trip to Chicago Aug 10 - 12 - what a great weekend! I hope to provide a more detailed trip report in the next day or so - but wanted to say thanks again to the Fodorites who provided great recommendations - the whole group (8 of us) came away so impressed with the choices we made for dinner and entertainment for the weekend!

We went to the Second City performance Saturday night - 8 pm show - of Between Barrak and a Hard Place. The show was hilarious! My face hurt from laughing so much for nearly 2 hours straight! The show was a series of rapid fire skits and monologues, mixing commentary on politics, race, biases, and just everyday life experiences. Highly recommend this experience for all!

Before the show, we ate at the Adobo Grill, which is right next door. Once again - a fantastic recommendation. Very authentic Mexican food, with very fresh ingredients. Great service to boot! We cut it a little close, because I had 6 pm reservations for the 8 of us, and Second City began allowing people to be seated by 7:15. We probably finished eating around 7:30 and were among the last groups to be seated. Fortunately, we still had pretty good seats - we were in the very last row of the theater, but our two tables were dead center stage. Pretty small theater (depth wise) so we still had a very good view of the show! The show we were at was also attended by actor/comedian Fred Willard - who sat just two tables in front of us (entered after the lights went down.

Great night all around!

Hi all. We have tickets to the late show on Saturday, Sept. 8th. If we were to eat at Adobo, what time would you suggest we eat (the show is at 11:00 -- I assume we want to get in line about 10:15; we don't linger over food much, so 9:00?).

Is this good area to walk around, or is that too late on a Saturday night for things to be open, other than restaurants and bars? The other choice would be to eat closer to hotel (Marriott, Affinia or Sofitel, not sure yet -- see other post) a little earlier?

Would love all suggestions. We love good fun places with good food, hate "stuffy" and "pretentious" -- don't want to spend the evening discussing the food we're eating - LOL!

P.S. Is this the Wicker Park location or the Old Town location? The menu looks fabulous - does it taste as good as it looks?

I like satire. I like comedy. I go to about 30 shows a year. I was in Chicago about two years ago and walked out at intermission.

It is completely predictable. You are jammed in so close that you pray your neighbor does not have communicable diseases.

They pride themselves on being cutting edge. There is not one joke or line that puts the audience on edge.

Making anti-Condi Rice jokes is not daring or bold. How save can you get for comedy clubs?

I don't see why it has to be "cutting edge" to be funny.

Saw the show Tuesday night...had dinner first at The Fireside Inn...good food, great location..ate outside...about the show...funny, not rip-roaring laugh outloud, but cast was a little more polished than what we've seen at the Second City in the Detroit area...layout exactly the same..yes, you are jammed in ...but it looks like all of the seats are "okay"...What did you decide, russp3762, and how was your trip?
