Seattle transportation

My husband and I are going to Seattle in June,a Thurs-Tues. Do we need to rent a car or is the public transport okay. Is it viable to use taxi's to get across the city.
thanks for the help.

I went to Seattle last year and found the public transportation to be excellent and easy to navigate. I took buses and ferries. I did drive with a friend one day when we went outside of Seattle but if you are just going to be in Seattle a few days, personally, I wouldn't bother getting a car.

Buses work great in the city. You can always just rent a car downtown from one of the many rental places if you want to take a day trip to Rainier or somewhere outside the city.

I would not rent a car.

We have lots of taxis, but you usually pick them up at a hotel or call for them; they are not easy to flag down as in NYC and other big cities.

There is free bus service in the down town shopping core, and there is good bus service to places you are likely to visit. See http://transit.metrokc.gov

Downtown Seattle is a great city for walking. We stayed on the waterfront and walked to Pike's Market, Space Needle, REI, etc.
