Seattle to Vancouver Island

Im planning a trip to Seattle and really want to go to Canada. Vancouver Island is my ideal place to visit im just not sure how to get there theres so many ferries and im kind of confused. Which one to take? Do I have to go to vicoria first, do I need to rent a car?

If you are simply going to Seattle and Victoria, then you don't need a car. Here is a passenger-only ferry
(no cars):

Once in Victoria, there are countless coach or van tours to Butchart Gardens to choose from.

Whether you opt for a car or not really depends on what you want to see in the Seattle area and on Vancouver Island. Can you give more details as to what is on your wish list?

run a search at the top of this page for Seattle-Vancouver and you will find a lot of information. Here is a recent thread about the topic http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...r-by-ferry.cfm

In addition to the Victoria Clipper, you can drive from Seattle to Port Angeles and take a ferry to Victoria: http://www.cohoferry.com/main

There is also a ferry from Vancouver: http://www.bcferries.com/

Victoria is wonderful, but there is much more to Vancouver Island. If you can take a car, drive up to Duncan to view the dozens of totem poles, go further north to Chemainus to see the murals, then go further north to Nanaimo to catch a ferry back to the mainland. If you have the time, there are many places to visit on the west coast, Tofino being the most popular.
