When you are on Bainbridge you might check out this winery - they have won some awards ( an acquaintance is a part owner)

I wanted to FINALLY come back and report out on my trip. Please let me know if I should post this anywhere else. Again, thanks for all the advice. You will notice that I followed MANY of your suggestions. I have lots to share--sorry if it is a bit jumbled!

Sat. Oct 18--Flew in to the Seattle airport
Stopped at a good sandwich shop and grocery store not far from airport and fell immediately in love with the beer, cheese, and wine selections--stocked up on snacks for the week.
Drove toward Yakima and then on to the Hood River.
Stayed that night at Best Western Hood River-- enjoyed cocktails and live music at the hotel.

Sunday--had a fabulous breakfast at the hotel--included with room.
Hiked Multnomah and Pony Tail falls. Watched a football game (our terrible TN Titans) at River City Saloon in Hood River. Went walking in the little town of Hood River and discovered we were in town for Harvest Festival. Lots of great food and drink. Then stopped at Phriegms (sp?) Brewery in Hood River. Really loved it! Had dinner at the same hotel, but can't say we were overly impressed. Would skip it next time. Spent the night again and had another lovely breakfast at the hotel. We were rested and ready to go!
Drove to Mount Hood which was mostly overcast but still had a couple of decent viewing areas, and visited the Timberline Lodge which was so cool! Wish we could have stayed there. Went to the Mt. Hood Brewery--loved the "ice rails" on the bar where you could put your drink to keep it cold. Drove back to Hood River and stopped at a restaurant called Brian's PourHouse which is owned by someone my husband knows. We didn't eat or drink--just stopped to say hi, but it is a really cute place. We drove out of town and stopped at the Fish Hatchery to see the fish ladders. I didn't know what they were before, but now I do! Then we drove on and stopped at McMenamins Edgefield for one cocktail. I actually wish we could have stayed here as well. Such a beautiful place. We drove on to Portland and checked in to our hotel, the historic Benson. Loved this place! Small but beautiful room and great service. We went to dinner in Portland at Tasty & Alder--highly recommend for foodies and beer snobs alike. Then we walked to Deschutes Brewery and Rogue Brewery in the Pearl District. You could spend a week there an never try all the breweries! My husband was in heaven. Stopped and shared a sandwich at Lardos--recommend the Pho'Dip (play on Vietnamese and French Dip). So yummy!

Had breakfast outside of town at locals place called Elmers as we met an old friend there. It was fine--nothing special. Checked out of hotel and went to soak in a bit more of Portland, had a beer at Imperial Tap House in Richmond (nothing special), lunch at Pok Pok (best Thai food of my life--nothing like other Thai restaurants) and then had amazing ice cream at Salt and Straw. The flavor combos are totally unique and worth trying. Drove on to Cannon Beach and checked in at the Tolovana Inn. It wasn't fancy but it was a great location--the beach was INCREDIBLY windy and we took turns pretending to be weather anchors and videoing our weather reports! Great memories. Dinner at Ecola Seafood--not bad and then closed out the night with one drink at Bill's Tavern and Brew House and one at Warren House Pub (same owners but we preferred the service at the latter and it was right across from the hotel).

Fabulous breakfast at Lazy Susan Cafe in Cannon Beach--try the pear and lemon pancakes and you will thank me later! On the way to Olympic National Forest we stopped at the 101 Public House in South Bend. Looks like a dump but oh my the pan seared oysters! And a really cool person working there--neat place. We made it to Quinalt Lodge in time to do a short rain forest hike to Cascade Falls followed by delicious hot toddys in the lodge (yes, we like to drink). Had dinner at the nearby Salmon House which is dated but sweet and the baked dill salmon was excellent.

Next breakfast was in the Roosevelt Room at the hotel and was very good. We then drove to Kalaloch and Ruby Beach--stopping at both. Drove on to La Push and went to First Beach, and then did a bit of a hike down to Second Beach. So beautiful! We drove past Lake Crescent and on to Port Angeles to check in at the Red Lion. We had dinner at Next Door Gastropub--outstanding poutine! Also went to the Corner Street Pub for a late cocktail--kind of like a Denny's with a bar!

Had another amazing breakfast at 1st Street Haven and then went to the Laundromat at 282332 U.S. 101 Port Townsend, WA. It was clean and got the job done. After laundry we went to hike part of Hurricane Ridge toward Heather Park. THE. HARDEST. HIKE. EVER. And due to weather we couldn't see much. The road to the top of the ridge was closed. But we burned enough calories to make room for more food! Had dinner at Fireside Grill--really nice find in Port Angeles.

Yet another great breakfast at Cafe New Day before moving on. We took our car on the ferry from Bainbridge Island and went right to the Seattle airport to turn it in. Then we used light rail to get to our hotel, the Crowne Plaza in Seattle. Had a snack at Pike Place Brewery--too touristy for us. Then had lunch at Emmetts in Pike Place which had lousy food and TERRIBLE service. Didn't matter, because we found Pike's Place Chowder Market and had the best Scallop Chowder--oh my goodness! Visited the Elysian Bar--upscale and serves beer from Elysian Brewery. Had some of the best beers there of the whole trip. Late dinner at the Taphouse near hotel. Pretty good food and beverages.

First Seattle breakfast was at Lowells in Pikes Place--best lox and bagels in my life. Met a friend at Edgewater Hotel in the Six Seven bar for fancy happy hour and snacks. I will just list a few more restaurants we tried while in Seattle:
Queen of Sheba (delivered via Grub Hub)
Ponti Seafood Grill (neat location off the beaten path)
Belle Epicurean (um, I don't remember it?)
Japanessa (great sushi happy hour)
Pirashki stand (gotta try it)
Biersch brewery (touristy)
Back to Taphouse again
More bagels and lox at Lowell's before flying home!

I hope this helps someone else who is planning a similar trip! Next year--the Dominican Republic!

Thanks for checking back in and letting us know how it went. It seems like you hit some real highlights of the Pacific Northwest and I'm reminded of how much more I have to visit in that neck of the woods! I too was blown away by all the breweries in Portland; weren't the Multnomah Falls gorgeous? Best wishes, Daniel
