My wife & I are planning our 10th Anniversary (without kids).

Our choices for a 4 night summer trip are between Seattle, WA or Charleston, SC as we have not visited either.

We enjoy waling about and sightseeing.

Appreciate any input as to which city would provide a romantic and fun get a way.

Seattle should be nice that time of the year. Just North of Seattle is Vancouver. I did some quick research on B&B's and sites to see. For a nice romantic 4 nights, that might be right up your alley.

Charleston is also a nice city -- hot & humid in the summer.

Hi. I've never visited Seattle, but Charleston is one of my favorite cities. I really enjoy the history, the shopping, and of course the food. I would say that it is the perfect place to mosey around all day and spend romantic evenings with your honey.

I will have to agree with Budman in that summers are hot an humid. That's the south for ya.

Seattle-it's a great city with many romantic places to stay, good places to eat and much walking around to do. We always stay at the Gaslight Inn on Capitol Hill. You might also look at Hill House B&B(www.seattlebnb.com) in the same neighborhood. You can take the ferries to a variety of places for day trips including to Victoria. The weather will be far more bearable in the summer in Seattle than in Charleston. You can,as many have said before, type in "Seattle" on the topics board and stand back. You will have numerous postings of all sorts of things to do,see and eat in Seattle.

The suggestion for Vancouver BC is a good one. You can probably fly in for about the same. We are heading up there this September for an extended Pacific NW stay. It's a very alive city with all sorts of places to walk about and explore. Check out O'Canada House,Sutton Place Hotel and The Wedgewood Hotel as possible places to stay.

These places are sooooo different!! I think you need to decide what type of trip you want, a more relaxed sunny trip or an outdoorsy activity filled adventure. SC is your relaxing choice. I personally love S. Carolina...there is a lot to do and so much history. The beaches are gorgeous and it's so relaxing to lay in the sun, take fishing trips etc. Myrtle Beach is very close if you're interested in beach vacation stuff, boardwalk etc. But, being in Charleston you are close to my most favorite beach Pawley's Island...it's private (but free) and the coastal marsh flows into the ocean creating almost an island. You must also go to Brookgreen Gardens, beautiful botanical/sculpture garden on a very old plantation. Look into staying at a beach house in Litchfield which will place you between Charleston and Myrtle Beach.

As for Seattle, I've only been once and spent all that time at Olympia Nat'l Park, exploring the rainforest and coast...I wish I had more time b/c there are so many outdoor things to do, hiking and cruising etc.

My choice for romantic in summer would be Seattle over Charleston because of Charleston's stickiness factor unless you plan to spend most of your time in the air conditioning. It is just so hot there in the summer! On the other hand, it depends on what climate you're used to. Hot and sticky might be ok if you don't spend all summer in it. If I were going on such a trip in October/November, I would probably give Charleston the edge.

Charleston is too special to see it for the first time in the summer heat. You won't feel like walking about. You newlyweds will enjoy Seattle.

I enjoyed my trips to Seattle. I did not enjoy South Carolina because quite a few people are openly racist. A few are nice but say mean things behind your back (I heard them from the next aisle in the grocery store). I cannot explain why South Carolinese are like this. Is it because they were terrorists during the Civil War when they bombed the Fort in Sumpter for no good reason (just like the Japanese Navy did at Pearl Harbor or the Arabs did on the 11th of September)

There's a good deal of irrational prejudice in most areas of the world. Brits vs French, Shiite muslims vs. Sunis, Australian aborigines vs caucasian immigrants, Catholics vs Protestants in UK, Palestinians vs Israelis, Hutu vs Tutsis in central Africa....hundreds of examples exist.

It's a basic human tendency to be suspicious and untrusting of those not 'like your kind'. Education and enlightenment are the only ways to eliminate this. Things have improved a lot in South Carolina in 30 years. But there's plenty more work to be done.

If you are talking June--go to Charleston.

If you're traveling in July or August-come to Seattle.

I don't think of Seattle as particularly romantic, but some of the outlying areas sure are. I'd look to spend time down on the coast, and out to some of the islands, maybe up to the mountains, with just a couple days in the city.

I love living here, but honestly I never quite "got it" as a tourist destination.

Seattle is a great place for walking and sightseeing and it will provide you with a "fun get away." You will have to supply the romance.
