SCROOGED! Need help with Daytona accomodations
I bought my husband and his best friend tickets to the Daytona 500 in Feb. Now I need a good hotel recommendation between the race track and Cape Canaveral. Help!

Thanks, GoTravel. I will give it a shot. francescarinaldi, it seems I learned (after buying the tickets) he is really more interested in visiting Cape Canaveral than he is in seeing the race.....will I never learn not to try and surprise this guy??????

Sure. Are you talking about just the race or the whole "Speed Week" thing? If it's just the Daytona 500 race, then I would suggest picking up something around Cocoa Beach, where you're not as likely to get totally fleeced on the rate and have to deal with a minimum number of nights, etc. Cocoa Beach is VERY convenient to Cape Canaveral. Under normal circumstances, it might take a bit more than an hour to get to the track. (These are definitely NOT normal circumstances, so it's going to be more like... oh, say, four. ).

I'd suggest hotels.com as one of THE BEST discount hotel websites. You put in the town/city and dates of travel and it will give you a good base of info and additional coupons for attractions, food and shopping.

Daytona area hotels/motels all have 4+ day stay requirements during Speedweeks and over the week-end of the 500. Prices are unbelievably high during the week. Go with 'Flyboy's" advice. Go south for accomodations. Prepare for massive gridlock on I-95 in/out of Daytona on race day. I've been going for years and I'm from Jacksonville. You just have to put up with it all, as the 500 is something you'll never experience again! Have a great time!

cmcfong, I have to ask what is it about Cape Canaveral that your husband wants to see, it is basically just a big cruise ship port. But if you are looking for accomodations in CC the best and closest is the Radisson near the cruise ship terminal. It is probably far enough from Daytona that the prices will not be much different from normal. It is about 50 miles from CC to daytona
