Savannah suggest best squares/vacation rental
2 of us are in Savannah for a WK in early March. We're booking a vacation rental..plan to walk alot (although we will have a car). What streets and/or squares can you suggest as best neighborhoods/locations? Not staying in a hotel + prefer comforts of a kitchen + living room. We love gardens..and off the beaten trail ideas...but not a run down area. We may rent bikes, are foodies (local food restaurants)+ generally not doing bars or nightlife.

Thank you Dukey1...that is just the kind of info we are looking for...when you say roll down Bullstreet + up Abercom..do you think it is better to start a ways off the river...like Broughton st.? and any importance to being sort of central in the historic district?...like ease of heading out on different walking tours?

I would actually start over at the river and go from there assuming you are on bikes which is why I said "roll."
You can walk the route obviously. My memory isn't good enough to tell you which of those squares might be the more interesting or picturesque but all of them are interesting in one way or another.
If it is open, drop in at St. John's Epsicopal Church on Madison Square (at Macon Street) and look at the windows.

Hello all..to clarify...I would like help with suggestions on best streets/cross streets/neighborhoods to stay in (but not a hotel).I can get a street name when I pursue a vacation rental. It may be a home..apt..townhome or condo. One review for a VRBO I saw on-line mentioned sketchy neighborhood. Realized that I'm not savvy about Savannah. Thanks again Dukey1 for more tips though...

Here is my trip report from a recent trip to Charleston and Savannah. We had a nice VRBO but it was bit big--great parking space!

On your trip report, your VRBO was Columbus Square. To help with my VRBO search, any other squares that you would like the location to stay at...better than Columbus Square? .. which neighborhoods? StantonHyde.thanks for the info..good to know the importance of parking too.
