savannah-need hotel near the Hyatt

I'll be going to Savannah in early March. Original plan was to stay at the Hyatt, but they may be overbooked. Any suggestions for a nearby alternative - Hampton? Doubletree? I need to be a short walk to the Hyatt for daily meetings there - not looking to spend over $200/night, if possible.

We like Hampton Inn - pleasant walk down Bay Street or closer to River on River Street will get you to Hyatt - maybe a 5 minute walk.

Second the Hampton Inn - very pleasant, accomodating staff - good location.

Both are good and very short walk. Doubletree is actually closer - but not enough to matter.

I just received several hotel proposals for a Savannah reunion. A new hotel(spring 2005) is the Garden Hotel on corner of Bay and Montgomery, and looks very nice. It is also reasonable. www.gardenhotelsavannah.com for info and rates. They do have a $13.00 parking fee.

The East Bay Inn is a small hotel right next to the Hampton. I don't know what the prices are. The Mulberry Inn is a couple of blocks east of those two. So maybe a 10 minute walk....Across the river is the Westin. Regular ferry service would take him back and forth, but it may be out of his price range. In addition to the ones already mentioned, there is also, the Olde Harbor Inn that's right on the river and I think there's one called the River Street Inn.

March 17th is the big St Patricks Day Parade. Unless you plan to be here well before that, you are going to have trouble finding a place in that area.
