savannah for Mother's Day
I need suggestions for lunch or brunch (mother (76) and 2 daughters) for Mother's Day. I would prefer a place that takes reservations. We plan on going to Tybee Island for the afternoon. Is there someplace in the Historic District that we can rent a car or do we have to go back to the airport?

This was nearly ten years ago, but myself, DS, my dad and my sister stayed downtown in the historic district, got tired of taking cabs and public transportation (particularily since the cab to Tybee was really prohibitive), and called Enterprise. They delivered a car to the hotel, the gentleman was extremely cheerful and helpful, it cost no more that a one-way cab to the beach, and they were extremely easy to deal with. We were really sorry we hadn't done it sooner. For the icing on the cake, when we turned the car in, they delivered us back to the train station at no extra charge, rather than leaving us to cab it back to the Amtrak station from the hotel. I know we are not supposed to plug commercial entities, but Enterprise has gotten most of the (fairly sporadic) family business since then, and has not let us down. They seem to be particularily good about providing cars (cheaply) to slightly stranded yankees loose in Southern metros, who are tired of taking cabs to Walmart. Even on Fridays, in Florida, during Spring Break.

My most memorable fancy meal in Savannah was a place called either Elizabeth or Elizabeth's. Pleasant atmosphere, nice presentation, good variety on the menu. But it was several years ago and things might have changed since then...

Elizabeth's on 37th is very nice but you will definitely need a car or a cab to get to it. It's a long walk and not through the best area of town.
Consider the buffet at the Mulberry. Very convenient, a large area to sit and wait in the lobby if you need to and a good buffet with lots of choices.

The Hyatt's buffet was terrific too, and very very popular. If you are lucky, you can get a table overlooking the river. I believe most of the larger hotels with full service restaurants have a Mother's Day brunch. Reservations required and for Hyatt's anyway, well in advance, as they sell out.
Elizabeth's would be wonderful, but it didn't used to do brunches. Under no circumstances should anyone walk there from the historic district!!
Check Pink House...can't remember if they did them or not. It'd be another terrific place to go.
