We're going to Savannah in Janurary to see Brian Regan @ SCAD. Best place to stay one night in the historic district?
Will do the trolley tour, 1st time to visit! Sounds like Lady and Sons for sure and some squares for photos. Leaving anything out?

Actually, rather than Lady and Sons for sure, it would be Mrs Wilkes for sure, if you are there Monday through Friday. Despite Paula Deen's TV fame, I'd take Mrs Wilkes, (the Real Savannah Down Home Cooking Experience), any day. Mrs Wilkes is only open for lunch Mon-Fri. For a nice evening meal without leaving the historic district, try Pink House.

What do you prefer for lodging? Hotel or B&B and price range?

Walk all the squares on Bull St, from City Hall to Forsyth Park. Jones St, east and west of Bull is also very pretty.

You only have a day? Concentrate on Savannah away from River St and City Market, the two areas that cater to tourists. The pulse of Savannah is in the squares. Each is different from the other, each unique. See River St only for the historical value it once had, but concentrate on what is behind it.

I like both - Mrs. Wilkes AND Paula Deen.

My favorite hotel is the Hampton Inn at Bay and Abercorn. The Doubletree, Mulberry (a Holiday Inn property), East Bay Inn, Hyatt and Planters Inn are all good and well located.

The Planters Inn gets bonus points because room service is from the Pink House.

The Pink House is my favorite restaurant for dinner. Garibaldi's and Savannah Bistro are good runners-up if you can't get into the Pink House (owned by the same folks).

I like taking a walking tour (topic varies) in Savannah and a carriage ride.

I love the SCAD gift shop. The Gryffon Tea Room is nearby. Good for a snack or a pick-me-up.

Have fun!

I also prefer Hampton Inn - but they have recently opened a new property, also called Historic District. You want the one on Bay St, not the one on MLK Blvd.

My son is at SCAD - but pardon my ignorance, who is Brian Regan.

Another vote for Mrs. Wilkes which prepares real southern food just like my momma makes!
