As much as I love 10,ooo Waves, ultra luxe is not a description I would use.

Posted too soon!

10,000 Waves is more zen like than ultra luxe to me.

Could it be:

Encantado, Inn of Anasazi, Inn and Spa at Loretto;
Inn of the Five Graces or LaPosada?

My guess was Encantado based on "outside".

I know it wasn't 1000 Waves. Maybe I'm thinking of Encantado, but that just doesn't sound right. I have friends who stayed there a few years ago. As soon as I get a reply from them, I'll report.
Have any of you actually stayed at Encantado?
We are actually looking for a nice place to celebrate anniversary (long weekend) after we drop off our daughter for summer school in Taos. So, if anyone has suggestions, please let me know. We stayed at La Posada a few yrs. ago. Looking for something smaller and more private feeling. Not interested in B&B for this occasion.

Looks like Encantado has been reborn as a luxury resort. We stayed there many times when it was first opened in the 70s and 80s... loved it.

The location is fabulous with panoramic views. The website says they also have a daily shuttle to downtown, a definite plus.

I can hardly wait to go back to Santa Fe and stay there! You might want to take a look at the website at http://www.encantadoresort.com/

From what I can understand, Encantado has completely been renovated and is reopening August 2008. Looks amazing! If anyone has further information, please let me know.

Okay, I finally found name of place I originally asked about.... Rancho de San Juan. Anyone familiar with it?

DebitNM: Thanks for Taos recommendation. I'm not familiar with it, but will certainly check it out.

DebitNM: Any other luxury hotels in Taos area? Has Elmonte Sagrado been open very long? Have you stayed there?

I have not stayed there as we have the use of a friends' casita whenver in Taos. El Monte is just across the road from the casita, so I have seen it from the road. It is in a lovely setting, very private and woodsy.

Do a search on here, someone was asking about it a while back.

Bishops Lodge is in a pretty setting north of Santa Fe. While it was once a shining star, it seems to cater to conferences now and I've heard that rooms etc are tired.

Just booked the Romance Pkg in one of the Premier Suites at El Monte in Taos. The hotel looks lovely.

Unfortunately, Encantado wasn't open (yet) on the dates we needed, but it does look fabulous! It will definitely be on our list to try!

Sorry to hear Bishops Lodge has gone downhill. We were there quite a few years ago and loved it. At the time, breakfast and dinner were included in our rate. It was a quasi-dude ranch in terms of trail riding, riding to mesa for breakfast cookouts, skeet shooting, fishing and a great kids program.
