santa cruz or extra day in yosemite

Hi,

Our current plan is to leave Monterey after lunch and spend remaining of day and night at Santa cruz. The next day morning we'll head to Yosemite.

As we would already spend 3 days on Highway#1 and monterey, What do you think - shall we skip Santa Cruz to earn half-a-day & night in Yosemite or not?

We're planning to visit in last week of June, and we're coming from East coast (NYC)...looking forward for your inputs...

thanks!

How long will you have IN Yosemite if you don't add this time?

OK why did you pick Santa Cruz in the first place? Beach, surfing culture, boardwalk atmosphere, something for the kids? If you had a specific interest and you have more than a couple of days in Yosemite, then stick with your interests. If you have limited time in Yosemite AND you can book an extra night, then spend the time in Yosemite.

It's only me and my wife travelling there. I just added Santa Cruz as "we've seen one more extra place" only, don't know much about the place.
We have follwing plan for Yosemite (as of now...)

Monday - Reach yosemite by afternoon, Sentinel Meadow & Cook’s Meadow loop, Taft Point ,Sunset at Glacier Point
(Monday night @ Curry village)

Tuesday - Mist trail in the morning, Tioga Rd and Tenaya Lake, Sunset at Tunnel View and Artist point
(Tuesday night @Oakhurst)

Wednesday - spend some more time till noon, before heading towards Sequioa-kings canyon national park
(and spend a day there)

If you have no real interest in Santa Cruz, spend the time in Yosemite since you have only one full day there--assuming you can extend one of your reservations.

You will not regret adding the time to Yosemite as there is so much to explore, especially if you love the outdoors.

"Tuesday - Mist trail in the morning, Tioga Rd and Tenaya Lake, Sunset at Tunnel View and Artist point"

There is no guarantee Tioga Pass will be open by the time of your trip.. Do have a plan B for Tuesday -- not a problem since you could easily 5 days just in Yosemite Valley.

Historically the road can open any time from May up to early July. It definitely could be open in June - but this has been a VERY big snow year and there are new storms on the horizon. You'll know better by late May/early June.
