Sanibel Recommendations this fall...

I love Sanibel, my favorite places are Mitchell's, Blue Dolphin and Tropical Winds. Looking for affordable rental options in the neighborhood of these resorts and their beaches. (So that would be towards the end of West Gulf away from the lighthouse, or up by Boman's beach.)

Anyone have a home or condo there they would rent for 2 weeks at a reasonable price? I'm traveling alone and not splitting expenses w/ anyone. I'm an artist primarily interested in good shelling, would like to come this fall in the Oct/Nov range..If you don't have a booking yet, maybe you'll consider me...

Sanibel may not be ready to accept visitors. Residents are still not allowed as of today. Hundreds of trees uprooted, power lines down, no water, many houses damaged or destroyed.

You may want to reconsider your timing or destination.

AATraveler, you're a little outdated. Residents were allowed back on the island two days ago. Another thread here about Sanibel Damage has many more details.
No doubt the island is going to look a lot different next time you come -- particularly vegetation-wise, but most places will be ready to accept visitors within the next couple of weeks.
The further north you go, the more damage, but there are many places with minor or no damage which will be just fine.
Since you're looking for a private home or apt., I'm assuming you know of an agency? Trying to find a place on this site is really like looking for a needle in a haystack, but any good realtor on Sanibel will have lots of options for you that time of year.

Thanks for your reply Patrick. Hoteliers I've talked to say they estimate being open for biz mid to late Sept- lots of roofs gone and laniers ripped off. And furniture that needs to be replaced. Still boiling water, but that's estimated to change soon.

I want to go this fall and hit some of that fabulous post-hurricane shelling!

I posted this note on the off chance that I might be able to deal directly w/ an owner who did not feel like paying estate agent commissions. I'ts been my experience that you can get a better deal this way. Anyone have any leads?

You can do a search, "sanibel island vacation rentals by owner" and find vacation rentals which are rented directly from the owner. Here are some:
VRBO.com, greatrentals.com, cyberrentals.com, gulfcoastrentals.com, ownerdirect.com, valuevacationrentals, findvacationrentals.com, and there are more you will see if you do a search. Best of luck to you!
