Mucky Duck, Bubble Room, Chadwicks and the ever Miserable McT's all sort of coast on the sun soaked memories of a relaxing week on the islands. The food at these has never been particularly memorable but the times had there are and thus the pleasant memories.
My last dinner at the Mucky Duck was appalling. We went early to catch the sunset (December or January) and were herded into the dining room en masse, the menu recited to the room and the pre-made appetizers whisked out to us in record time. The whole of dinner was less than an hour. Talk about renting a table. We haven't been to dinner there since.

I agree that the food at the Mucky Duck isn't great. The view of the sunset (oustide after dinner) was fantastic, but the food was nothing special.
We loved the Sanibel Steakhouse and the Green Flash. Ask for a table with a view at the Green Flash and go for the sunset.
For a fun lunch and and GREAT cheeseburger, try Cheeburger Cheeburger. My husband loved it. It was lots of fun - definately nothing fancy though.

LilMsFoodie, I sure agree with you on McT's as well. It was *recommended* to us, but gets an unqualified thumbs down, IMHO. The disappointment in the food was maginified by the smoke, thick as your average English pub--that anyway should be a thing of the past with the new legislation, if not now, by July, I believe it is.
We've been so disappointed in food on there. My all time favorite meal was an Italian restaurant within walking distance of the Mucky Duck, but I understand it is no more.
We're going down for the Off-Shore Sailing School in Captiva this summer so if anyone has current good recs, I'm all ears!

I've been to the Green Flash. I really remember little of it. It faces the bay side (east) of Captiva so there is no sunset to be seen other than the light on the bay.
I'll have to try Grandma Dots next time I'm on Sanibel. I remember from two years ago a little marina restaurant with nothing distinguishing about the decor or the food.
