What to do in the City with mom? She counts as a senior on the Muni, but you would never guess it. Very hip, very active. What are some good mother/daughter things for us to do during her upcoming 4 day visit (other than the obvious shopping, spa, etc.). Thanks!

what are your interests? SF has a lot to offer other than shopping....take in a play or a concert, go to Alcatraz, walk over the Golden Gate Bridge, take in some of the museums.

Weather next week is supposed to warm up quite a bit in S.F. You could dine outdoors in Belden Lane, take a evening ferry to Sausalito and back, take a walk down from Twin Peaks (after cabbing up), etc. All things to enjoy while the temps are up, the fog is banished and the twilights are lovely.

It looks like you live in SF so you know what's what in the City. If I were her, I'd enjoy taking a ferry to either Sausalito or Tiburon for some shopping and lunch. I love seeing the city from the water.

Thanks, everyone. These are great suggestions. Stu, I read your SF posts in another thread with great interest. I actually had the opportunity recently to go on one of the stairway walks with Adah herself! What a fabulous lady. I am thinking about the Victorian Home tour you mentioned for my Mom. Dovima, great call on cabbing up & walking down from Twin Peaks -- I was wondering if Mom was up for the round trip. And Grasshopper, Tiburon sounds perfect for Saturday.

The Japanese Tea Garden should be right up there. I quite enjoyed it, and I'm not a gardening person!

I think the trip up would be waaaaaaay to steep. We lived at the base of Twin Peaks for 7 years when we were in our late 20s & early 30s & in to jogging big time. We never considered walking up. Also, times when I walked downhill for long distances, next morning I found new muscles that I didn't know I had, and could not walk for a couple of days. We've never walked downhill from Twin Peaks, however.

Which of the two Victorian Homes tours had you planed to take - and when. My wife is one of the guides, but we're leaving for a 6 week vacation soon and there is somewhat of a shortage of guides for a couple of the tours. Wouldn't want you & your mom to show up & have the tour cancelled. Let me know which ones your're considering & when.

Sort of OT - Hey Stu, since we live within blocks of each other now, just wondering where you lived near Twin Peaks. We lived on Greystone Terrace for 3 years in the mid to late 70s. Loved that location (P.S. when we jogged up there, we jogged ALONG the terrace streets, not up and down hills)!

We lived on Jersey St directly across from the public library from early '75 to late '81. "Up" for us was up Clipper. Car (VW) had trouble making it.

Heading into the City now for a City Guides tour. Hope the weather there is as nice as it is here. Glad the wind finally stopped.

Sausalito is great! It's a charming waterfront community that you will remember for a long time to come. Be sure to have dinner at Scoma's on Bridgeway St. for some simply marvelous wine and seafood. I was amused in that I seriously love tartar sauce - theirs was SO good but they refused to sell me some to take home or give me the recipe!

Any chance you know someone & could get an invite to the St Francis Yacht Club (by the Golden Gate?)
When we are invited it just seems like quintescentail San Franciso with the yachting theme/people and of course teh incredible views over a cocktail of the Bay and the Bridge...

I would take Mom to City Lights Bookstore, Spec Adler's across the street, Vesuvius or Cafe Trieste for coffee, for a Beat Generation tour.

Some moms like baseball games, and the Giant's stadium is still fun.

Also, Goldstar has a lot of half-price theater, spa, dance or other events that might be fun to try. They often have Beach Blanket Babylon tickets for half price (for the last show). (membership is free)

And, at Golden Gate Park near the Japanese Tea Garden, I also enjoy the view from the new DeYoung museum, and the Conservatory of Flowers is charming.
