San Francisco Sunset Help

To all the local experts. Where are some of the best spots to view and photograph the beautiful sunset in San Francisco. Thanks for the help.

I'm not a local but when we were there we took the regular ferry (not tourist boat) for a minimal fare to sausalito in the evening. We had a great sunset view from the boat.

Brian,

Go to the tenderloin to see the sunset. Can't beat the sunsets there.

It depends on what you want to see in your sunset. My sister had her wedding reception on Treasure Island one November. It was a stunning, clear day. The pictures of them standing with their backs to the city at sunset are so awesome they look fake. If you want to see SF in the picture try Treasure Island at sunset.

On a clear day, I like to sit on the beach at Crissy field and watch the sun fall behind the Golden Gate Bridge.

The outside observation deck at Embarcdero Center.
Coit Tower.
Across the bay in Sausalito.

Good luck

While visiting SF we were given a tip by a local, and a great tip it was. Go to the top of the Fairmont Hotel. It is on Nob Hill and a block from the cable car stop. There is a bar/restaurant on top with a 360 degree view of SF Bay. Feel free to go and just have a drink - a great view for the money. Be sure to ride up in the otside glass elevator. Just go in the main lobby and ask or follow signs to the outsode elevator. Plan ti be there for the sunset - you will see the city by day and then at night with lights twinkling. Have fun!

Unfortunately, the top of the Fairmont is closed for renovations and will not re-open as a restaurant or bar, but as a conference center instead. There will not be general access to those beautiful views any longer (or so I was told when we had out last Sunday brunch there.)

The same view can be achieved across the street at the Mark Hopkins. The Top of the Mark serves High Tea, drinks and dinners. Enjoy!
