San Francisco Romantic Getaway

I am surprising my wife with a two night anniversary trip in September. I need some recommendations on very nice Inn's and romantic restaurants (italian & seafood) also, any websites that outline the entertainment availabilities? Thanks for you reply's. I am leaning toward nob hill but I'm open to other areas as long as they are clean and safe.

Thank you!

Look into the Four Sisters properties, which are romantic Victorian B&B-type inns. There are several in SF. www.foursisters.com

www.sfgate.com has events and entertainment listings, restaurant and theater reviews, etc.

September is good, weatherwise, and so I definitely recommend a sunset ferry ride on the Bay or walk across the Golden Gate Bridge for a romantic outing (but dress warmly for both as the wind can be cold). I also find romantic a hand-in-hand stroll through the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park.

Rose Pistola in North Beach serves excellent Italian food California style. It's pricey but worth it. My favorite more traditional Italian place is Little Italy, but it's not downtown -- it's out in the Noe Valley neighborhood on 24th Street. There's no lack of great restaurants in San Francisco. Others I like a lot are Kuleto's (Powell St.) and LuLu (Folsom near 5th St.). You can probably find reviews on www.sfgate.com

Agree with Caitlin or look at the Archbishop's Mansion too. Try going to www.sf-visitor, www.sfgate.com. Lots of info there. SF restaurants tend to be loud and trendy rather than romantic. A drink at the Top of the Mark or the bar at Farallon would be nice. Afternoon tea or lunch at the old Palace Hotel is very nice. Probably Masa's is romantic, but the food isn't what it used to be. I think the sfgate site ranks restaurants by decibels so that will give you some idea. Congrats.

Kam is right, afternoon tea ar the Palace under the atrium is soothing and dcadent. Also agree that the best-known restaurants aren't romantic. Comb the reviews, though, and look for small neighborhood places, as there are definitely possibilities there. www.mercurycenter.com is the site for the San Jose paper, but they also have reviews of SF restaurants.

You might look into the Hotel Monaco near Union Square. It also has a lovely restaurant in it's lobby. We really loved the place.

Little Italy closed down but I would recommend that you check out www.bayarea.citysearch.com for SF for hotel and restaurant listings. or zagats.com for food. There are SOOO many good restaurants in SF. here are some of my suggestions though.

Hotel Majestic is really nice
Cafe Kati in Pacific Heights (Calif fusion)
Venticellos- Nob Hill (Italian)
Antica Trattoria - Russian hill (Italian)
Brazen Head- Cow Hollow (AMerican)
Delfina - Mission (Italian)
The House North Beach (fusion/seafood)
Aqua or Farralon Larger Top Rated Seafood restaurants near downtown
Firefly - Noe Valley (American/Fusion)
Plouf - downtown (seafood/french)

How about Union Street Inn? My brother stayed there last year and loved it.

FOR BAND B THE INN ON UNION SQUARE CAN'T BE BEAT FOR LOCATION, BUT IN THE SAME AREA IS THE PRESCOTT HOTEL WHICH HAS A WONDERFUL COCKTAIL HOUR (FUN PLACE TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE CITY)BUT MY MOST FAVORITE HOTEL IS THE PALACE, IT IS THE GRAND DAME OF S.F. ANOTHER EXQUISITE PLACE FOR A ROMANTIC COCKTAIL BEFORE OR AFTER THE THEATER IS THE REDWOOD ROOM IN THE CLIFT HOTEL JUST DOWN THE STREET. ALSO ACROSS THE STREET AS WAS MENTIONED THE GRAND CAFE FOR DINNER OR LUNCH. IF YOU HAVE A CAR DO GO ACROSS THE GOLDEN GATE AND TAKE A RIDE OUT ON THE HEADLANDS.
